We seem to have had more than our fair share of knee injuries. Is the Subi surface a problem that way? I think WCE must think so because they were watering the ground before games. And I thought that the watering often made the ball slippery and prevented smooth passages of play. maybe they need to core the grass and put a soft clay in the holes. What do you think?

(off season........time to talk about watching the grass grow :D )

The AFL did an investigation on Subi this year and concluded that it is no more dangerous than the other grounds. So our knee injuries would have to come down to bad luck not the ground surface.

Also, Siera did his knee in Geelong and Read did his in Adelaide, so Subi cannot be blamed.

Read did his at Colonial in Melbourne - I was there. Looked like nothing at all at the time. Story of our season.

You sure about that? I was certain he did it at footy park in the practice match against Adelaide:confused:

Tough West Coast Eagles utility player Phillip Read will miss the entire 2001 season.

Following a review last night with the club’s orthopaedic specialists it was decided that Read’s right knee would undergo a reconstruction due to the rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament. He is likely to have the surgery next week.

It is a bitter blow for Read who appeared to hurt his knee in an innocuous incident at Colonial Stadium last Friday night during a third round Ansett Cup match against St Kilda. Initial tests on his return to Perth revealed damage to his anterior cruciate ligament and those fears were confirmed last night.
