Anyone interested in Chael Sonnen's new submission wrestling concept? Each grappling match will get a result and the fights are under the Eddie Bravo rules. Some big names are competing in the first event and you can see it at flocombat.com but I don't think that it's free.

I personally like the concept and could be a lot more interesting to the casual BJJ and wrestling fans. I'm looking forward to seeing Jake Shields in action too.

i missed this and I havnt had a chance to watch Eddie Bravos events yet but keep up to date though podcast, I love the concept I just havnt had the time to invest into it. I only watch mid week UFC last night cant remember the last bellator card I watched.

I'd heard of this, but wasn't paying much attention. Just looked at what it entails and it's not bad.

It's submission only, which I don't really like. That makes it easier for people to do what Schaub did in that Metamoris match. He just avoided locking up with his opponent for most of the 20 minutes because he was outmatched and it ended in a draw. Sonnen competed in Metamoris and did something similar, but it wasn't as bad. He sat in his opponents guard and was only looking to survive.

This is only 8 minutes and not 20 minutes, which is in ways better and worse. If you want a proper submission only event, you can't really have a time limit. I think you need a point system for the way Metamoris operates because otherwise it's going to end in a draw when you have equally matched grapplers in there, or when one just wants to survive.

It's in a cage which is interesting. 8 minutes then they go to overtime.

According to a release, the winner of the overtime period will be determined as follows: “The winner of a coin flip can elect to start the overtime period attacking from the back or from the “spiderweb” (arm bar) position. If one competitor scores a submission and his opponent does not, he is declared the winner. But if both competitors escape from submission attempts, the match moves to the next overtime round. After three overtime rounds, the competitor who escaped the quickest is declared the winner.”

Sounds pretty good. Certainly better than the Metamoris ruleset.

When I first saw this thread I thought it was about the Australian radio thing. But that's Submission Radio.

With the discussion on grappling in the other thread I thought that this might be worth a bump.

Jon Jones vs Dan Henderson is the headline for the second card of Submission Underground. Eddie Bravo rules, of course, and I like the format of it. There also seems to be a lot of interest by the fighters to compete at this too, which is good. I'd love to see Tony Ferguson sign up to this, the dude is so slick and aggressive, it would be great to watch.
