Cricket Thread: Bring on the Kiwis

There match winner gave us 2 easy chances.

Our fielding which has been great during the finals prior to tonight was the difference.
For all the s**t Nielsen cops, he makes that stumping easily.

Carey and Renshaw cost us that game. Simple as that.

Yeah, fielding is so important and probably the reason we won the last two games.

Within the rules but not sure about the retirement. I think if you walk out to bat with that injury you need to finish the innings but the rules seems to allow it.

Atrocious effort with the bat from 3 of our top 4. Choked on big stage. Lucky to get 167.

Two big chances go begging in the field.

Outfielders allowed constant twos all innings.

Bowlers struggled to close out overs. Last ball fours made it difficult to elevate the required run rate.

And all the while playing against the Sixers 2nd XI

We just needed to be 5% less s**t in any facet and we romp that in

The finals blurs what was an ordinary tournament in alot of ways. Some random thoughts.

We need to get the balance right and play five bowlers and six batsman (including the keeper). Short is a good bowler but the Captain needs flexibility.

We need a bowler who can bat a bit and move Rashid down to 8.

The backup keeper to Carey needs to be a decent bat.

Bowling wise we might see some fair changes. I am not sure what was going on with Worrall and Agar this tournament. Siddle and Ahmed may retire.

Cockbain, Kelly and Thornton were good finds. Conway cops a bit but I think he bowled okay.

Shorts contract might be up this season, he will get some fair interest from other clubs.

Obviously we need to get more from Weatherald.

Third was a good result but we are a fair way off.

Strikers did well just to get this far. Sixers missed two of their best bats tonight, but we missed ours the entire regular season. Lost our and the worlds best bowler just before finals. Kerr looks a find though, 24 wickets this season and 98 tonight, would expect he gets some international opportunities soon enough.

T20 is such a fickle game though, can be average most of the season and still finish 3rd. Just like the Aussies in the T20 World Cup; average beforehand and then lit it up when it matters. Also, why did the Sixers get to play a home game tonight after other teams needed to play in Melbourne?

Look, probably should have won that. Had our chances.

SA continues its storied history of finding an absolute nobody in the opposition team to beat us ...
Kerr a nobody? He’s a top order batsmen at grade cricket level and somehow turned himself into a very good bowler at the higher level. Doesn’t mean he lost batting ability, had a handy lower order innings this season. Hopefully gets some international opportunities after his season.

We were poor tonight, but if that was the Sixers 2nd 11 then basically the Strikers played with a 2nd 11 all regular season (missing our two best batsmen). With the stupid long season format, the best players for all sides weren’t playing finals.

Highest score was 22 before tonight

Surely everyone knew we would choke.

When was the last time a South Australian team won a final at the SCG?
How many finals has any SA team played at the SCG? I can only think of the Crows in 2016 and, before that, 1998 when Vardy had a night out.
