No mate, not one season. Player x would have to put together a decent career at the club too.
Duncan Ferguson is an example from the years when Everton were on the verge of relegation every season.
Matt Le Tiss has been mentioned. Juninho from Boro. Jay Jay Okocha. That's off the top of my head but they're plenty of others.
I meant in the way in regards to, well, if it was a rarer occasion, like if you're one of the bigger clubs, or have been in the division for a very long time. For Leicester, that's not really something I could attribute to.
Dang, good call on Le Tissier. There's no question there on his legend status. I almost forgot just how annoynomus Southampton was in the 90s. Either midtable or fighting off relegation. He probably would've been a legend even without it, but yeah, there were times where he was a very big say on Southampon staying up. For me, he comes under the Shearer category, (I would probably through in Tim Cahill) in doing a lot for the club without accomplishing anything.
Juninho... that's a cult figure there. But first ever league cup, that alone is big enough.
Ferguson I suppose would be fair, but he's got an FA cup there. I know what you mean, Everton were on the verge of relegation, quite amazing to think what the story was a decade ago. Everton's history also suggests that this is significant. I know Fergerson was great for the club... but I'd almost say Cottee would be the name. He was the one that really saved Everton, and he had a decent career. He'd be up there, but I don't quite know about legend status.
Jay Jay Okocha... yeah, alright, I'll pay that one. Saved them twice, which resulted in their first European Campaign (While notable, considering its history and given context, not quite as impressive) as the captain. Yeah, his legend status is more due to him saving the club and then taking it somewhere. Although doesn't he have a sour relationship with them now? No matter, I'll pay that.
Some good stuff there.
