Rooney will have a better season than RVP.
Rooney is a good choice for captain. Not only is he talented he gives all he can for the team.

Fletcher as VC is the joke.
I really don't rate Rooney as a leader. The amount of times he has gone out in public and eyed a move to United's direct rivals is preposterous. Sure, he may score more goals than RVP this year and his workrate is good - but he's a vain, stroppy bloke who never grew up and has always failed to deliver on the biggest stage.

I'm not saying he isn't one of the best players in the league, but I reckon captains need to be heart and soul players. People who can say to their team mates 'follow me'.

Chelsea has Terry, Liverpool has Gerrard, City has Kompany, Everton has Jagielka and we have Dawson. Obviously the last two are hardly great players, but they do scream loyalty to the cause.

Arsenal have been in a bit of a mess with their captain being sold, so they've gone and given it to an older head in Mikel Arteta with the aim of someone establishing themselves as leading candidate by the time he retires/departs in a year or two.

I know Fletcher's a bit of a joke of a player these days, but I would have given it to him for this season. It's the next best thing after Moyes let Vidic walk out. Fletcher has been through a lot and is a club stalwart, he won't play every game in which case the armband goes to Rooney - but by giving it to a 28 year old with the kind of past WR has, you're locking in at least four years of him having it unless he gets sacked.

I just don't think you guys can trust him.

I'm really not having a crack, I don't mind United at all; it's just my opinion and I think it's backed up by reason.

Arteta and BFG have been the leaders since joining the club. The dressing room was a mess and full of cliques but they brought everyone together. They are meant to of been the real leaders at Arsenal.

Di Maria will be like Ozil and might struggle to ever win a major trophy again but he'll be well paid and the star of his new team. Real are getting peak value so its a good time to cut him loose.

Fletcher simply isn't good enough and if we had a proper DM wouldn't even play.

I personally would have gone with De Gea but completely fine with Roo.

I would have gone with De Gea after Fletcher. Perhaps even RVP because you're getting a year or two max from him and he and LVG know eachother inside out.

injured and gained a lot of weight. supposedly slimmed down and is back to how he used to be. playing with pato.
Still reckon he could carve out a career in a major European league. Still relatively young, just needs to gain some more confidence.

Fletch was decent in the past . Didnt he come back from a serious illness ?
I guess he aint the same player he was .
It was lucky that he could even come back, that illness took most of his footballing gifts away.

Which is a shame as he was bloody good from 2008-2010

In regards to the captaincy, ive never quite understood some decisions that clubs make. Ive always been keen for the captain of Liverpool to be English, or at the very least, from the UK. I also feel that a captain should have a real connection with the club, obviously have terrific leadership skills and also helps that they are good footballers.

Sure that leaves very few prospects when you need to tick every box but we have managed to do it over our entire 100 plus year career. Im pretty sure the only bloke to ever captain Liverpool who wasnt from the UK was Sami Hyypia.

Like I dont get Arteta as a captain. He is Spanish and spent most of his career at Everton. He wasnt at the club particularly long before Arsenal gave him the armband. But I guess it's a lack of options.

Kompany too is a strange choice. He has no link to England or Manchester or the club itself. He is very good obviously and a terrific leader but doesnt tick every box.

Maybe with how the game has gone with foreign imports and the global appeal that the idea of the local lad captaining his team is a long gone fantasy and maybe im just still unaware because we were blessed with Steven Gerrard for the past 15 years.

Even still, when he retires, id like to see the captain stay English with several candidates like Henderson, Sterling, Sturridge etc...

vinny ticks absolutely every box as a captain. you don't have to be born supporting a club to develop a relationship with the club. vinny and zaba are manc's through and through now.

you give the captaincy to your best leader, no matter where they're from. the fact that people are scrambling for names for the england captaincy shows how few leaders are currently being crafted.

Not every box but he ticks most.

According to Di Marzio Milan keen to take Torres on loan for a season with an option to buy at the end. Fernando wants to keep getting paid the current 150k a week he's on now, this will make it tricky(there's also talk of a payout).

Apparently Destro is lined up to replace him at the Bridge, haven't seen much of him is he decent?

Works hard and knows how to finish, but if you're a young striker atm you wouldn't go to Chelsea, would be surprised if he gets much game time over Costa who'll start most games
