I think he was more a finance guy than a football but worked a lot with Fergie on recruitment and new just about all there is to know about recruitment. The farce of last summer wouldn't have happened with Gill in charge. But I don't think he would have involved himself directly in finding players.

Although I think that probably describes Dein pretty well also.

There is a rumoured option to buy him but while his work rate has been great, he hasn't scored a goal yet (only had the 1 assist I believe).

A few rumours going around we will try and get Ba back from Chelsea and look at English talent over foreigners this window (Scumberland's Colback looking likely to join on a free transfer and we are also interested in Creswell from Ipswich apparently).

Yeah, if it's true, not exactly keen/excited by this at all. He's a solid enough player but never rated him that highly (doesn't help when you have red hair and play for the scum). 'Apparently' he was infact originally a Geordie (but his family had members who supported either the toon or the mackems) but when coming through as a junior, was offered a chance by Scumberland to join their academy (which would have given him a pathway to achieving his PL dream and so took it).

If it does go through though, he will have to play well from day 1 or the fans will be on his back straight away. If Gosling leaves at season's end, he might make a decent enough backup mid. I'd personally like to see Mehdi Abeid (who we loaned to Panathinaikos and has been doing very well) given a chance to push his claim.

Remember watching him in a youth cup semi years ago. Stood out a bit then, and has always been pretty decent when I've seen him. A good solid 6-7/10 player every week. Would be useful to have in a squad IMO.

My wishlist would be another CB to replace faye, a LB, and maybe someone to cover on the right. So basically just depth to cover for Europe.

Just on the recruiting situation at Man United, I read yesterday that Moyes got rid of the existing recruiting staff at the club and installed a few Everton people to head up recruiting and scouting. Don't know if they have been given the flick as well.

Always a danger letting managers empire build IMO.

Chelsea need a striker and a midfielder more than anything.
Their midfielders in my order of quality (different players, but in terms of usefulness and quality)
Matic, Luiz, Ramires, Lampard, Mikel

The last three aren't good enough. One can be retained for depth, possibly even two but Chelsea really need to find a player to compliment Matic and Luiz imo. Luiz and Matic are good defensive midfielders and Luiz is a good ball player. But Chelsea need a more creative, box to box sort of midfield presence. Who there is I have no idea.

Had heard we were in for him as well. Not sure I'm overly keen on him, it's not really an area we need to strengthen.
