Surely if Atletico win the league/make the CL final, they should be aiming higher than Torres.

Especially if Costa goes, they'll have some serious coin to spend.

They're in a fair bit of debt, according to their president owing hundreds of millions of euros to the Spanish government in back-tax. He expects the club to pay off that particular debt “in the next four to five years” and admits the club’s decisions on retaining players was still dictated by its financial situation. He is under strict instructions not to spend more than they make.

Plus Torres is still a rockstar/hero there, he was apparently mobbed at the airport by Atletico fans.

But then who knows it could just be the president being polite about a club hero.

they're not that poor. they were able to clear a lot of their debts last season. not fantastic, but not dire.

the money they could bring in for a possible champions league/league double would help even further. they're a clever club, they'll find someone to replace costa if he does leave.

Bit of talk they want to sign Icardi.

spanish clubs outside the big 2 are the smartest clubs around when it comes to transfers. just look at sevilla. i think it was 14 players out, 13 players in, signing players like gameiro and bacca to replace negredo. they'll likely sell rakitic this summer and get big money for him, and replace him with 2-3 players who will then get sold in 2-3 years. it's what they do.

Atleti has a conveyor belt of top line striking talent. Torres, Aguero, Falcao, Costa.

When they sell Costa they'll get a top liner in, double his value and we go around and around and around.

Torres may go there (I doubt it unless Chelsea pay out his contract), but they won't be relying on him as their number one striker.

for me the only major atletico player to leave is likely costa. players love playing for simeone. turan might also go due to his release clause. but with cavani seemingly on the market again chelsea could go in for him again.

i'd absolutely love koke at city, but that won't happen.

Id like Koke as well.

Costa definitely gone.

Yeah, I'm not sure about doing this one all over again, it really shattered me last summer as I really thought it was going to happen. PSG won't sell after one seasons will they?

I'm trying not to believe the 'Roman wants Cavani' rumours.

Either he or Costa would make me so happy.

For us, I don't think it will be a huge window. Definitely getting a top line CB in. Mangala seems favourite for that at the moment. Backup right back, Couple of central midfielders (Fernano and Zuculini). If it was me I wouldn't replace a forward if/when Dzeko goes. We have plenty that can play a more forward role behind Aguero or Negredo. Maybe get a younger forward or give Guidetti a try as backup.

Atletico are the experts in scouting south american talent and bringing them in through third party ownerships, which other leagues are unable to do. Quality everywhere there so they will always have class replacements lined up.

The clubs between 3-6 in Spain do a great job of snaring the best talent from the smaller clubs also and within 2 years on selling them again. Expect the shining lights at Rayo, Celta and Levante to get moves to AM, Valencia and Sociedad in the summer

There's also a fair bit of talent out side of Real and Barca

Aymeric Laporte, Iker Muniain, Markel Susaeta, Ander Herrera, Koko, Hugo Mallo, David Lopez, Pablo Sarabia, Alvaro Vadillo, Ruben Pardo, Inigo Martinez, Antoine Griezmann etc etc

If the league was financially fair and not a duopoly, then you would see a lot more teams being able to challenge Madrid and Barca.

Could be quite a few outgoing at the Toon over the summer. We are due a big window given we've gone 2 windows without making any permanent signings. Hope Cashley gets his cash out...
  • Santon rumoured to be on the radar of a number of Serie A clubs (we have 3 LBs already so might make sense).
  • Colo apparently keen to get back to Argentina again for family reasons.
  • Remy unlikely to want to make his loan permanent. De Jong's loan also unlikely to be made permanent at this stage.
  • Shola Ameobi and Dan Gosling likely to leave on free transfers.
  • Debuchy linked to PSG - would be keen to link up with Cabaye again and play champs league (the money wouldn't hurt either).

Liverpool rumoured to be looking at Konoplyanka, Shaqiri & Griezmann (among others) for that wing/#10 position. Expect us to sign 1, probably 2 players for that role and we'll likely have £35-40m of our budget set aside to secure those targets.

Will also be looking at a fullback to replace Cissokho. Our options next year will be Johnson, Flanagan, Enrique, Kelly & maybe Wisdom if we don't send him out on loan. We probably need a better 4th option than the latter 2, be it left or right back (Flanagan & Johnson's versatility gives us a bit of flexibility here). I'd expect us to set aside £10-15m to fill this gap.

Holy ****ing shit, sign all three of them, I don't care if it's overload, do it nao

I'd prefer us to give Suso a chance as 2nd choice to Coutinho, I'm no longer big on spending big money on a no.10. We definitely need two more wide options though, maybe even three
