Hmmm where to start with this.

If you met the buy-out amount then clearly you activated the clause.
If we activated the clause, the wording would be "have activated the buyout clause" Theres a distinct difference. Happened with the Ba signing when we activated his clause.

If a buyout clause is activated, it means the buying club transfers a specified amount into the players account and the player pays that amount to meet the buyout clause. Ander Herrera transfer is an example.

Graham Hunter says that Barcelona have made an initial offer of Sanchez plus cash for Suarez. Liverpool have agreed to meet Barcelona officials in London tomorrow to discuss the offer but the cash component is not enough at present. He expects that part of the negotiations to drag on.

If as Hunter suggests, Barca have included Sanchez in their opening offer, that to me indicates they have informed the player that he isn't in their future plans and he has agreed to be included in the negotiations which should help things run a little smoother.

Not sure why it matters either way, but I think the give away would probably be Chelsea's official announcement where they state: ".... with Chelsea meeting the buyout clause for the Spanish international."

I see your point, but I think if we activated the clause, given the way the taxes work in Spain, it would cost alot more then what the clause is.

I think it just means we have paid the amount of the clause but have avoided the extra fee's in taxes.

No you paid the full buy-out.
We paid the buyout amount but didnt activate the clause, but pretty sure only Costa could activate the clause and if he did he would then be slugged with a 50% tax bill.

Not that I care too much on how we got him, just so happy to have him.

Are Barca forcing Sanchez to accept the move to Liverpool?

I think Liverpool have to be careful here, last thing they'd want is losing suarez, gaining Sanchez and him then walking out after a season because he doesn't want to be there.

I highly doubt it. Technically Barcelona can't actually force him to do anything as he's still contracted for 2 more years, they can merely suggest that he finds a new club.

However, if Barca are including Sanchez in negotiations with Liverpool then obviously he's agreed to it and is open to a move to Anfield. To be fair though I'm sure he'll be open to moving to a number of top clubs now that Barcelona have made it pretty clear he's surplus to requirements. Hopefully we're the ones that benefit, I think we'd be a good fit for him with the style of football that we play but I'm sure we won't be the only ones showing an interest in him.

Kike Marin reporting Arsenal have bid 20m for Sanchez.

Surely not?

But then again, we can always increase our bid to £21m after he's been sold for £35m+.

Struggle to think of a name that could replace Suarez and that is attainable, Sanchez is at the top of the list and I think if Suarez goes there is no more suitable replacement out there. Can play anywhere amongst the front three and his style fits with the way we try and play.

Also here's an article by James Pearce who is probably the most reliable Liverpool based journalist, pretty much backing up all the other reports.

What's the likelihood of United signing De Vrij, Vermaelen, Carvahlo?

Nani gone yet?

I think De Vrij is likely.

Carvalho is very expensive so I'm not that keen, Vermaelen who knows.

Sanchez would be Liverpool's best player, he's not that far behind Suarez.

Plenty of decent players have failed to be as good in England as they were elsewhere. That's the risk I guess. I think Sanchez is a great player but you never know for sure.

And Suarez could flop in Spain.

I think Sanchez would be a tremendous signing and would be the first signing Liverpool has ever done that made me jealous.
