i appreciate that james is a tremendous player. but so is di maria. di maria had an absolutely tremendous season and fits in with madrid's system so well, especially since ancelotti moved him into midfield

but both barca and madrid seem utterly intent on pushing out some of their best players this window so i don't know anymore

Emre Can is more of a Corvette type player for those of you that like a good car analogy. Plenty of raw ability but he's still a little bit unpolished and unrefined at present. Having said that, plenty for Rodgers to work with over the coming years. Capable of playing anywhere in midfield as well as left back (he's even filled in at CB on occasion), he's apparently been signed with a view to stepping into that deep lying playmaker role once Gerrard's legs fall off.

Im sure that would have been explored, but BM are a decent side in a very good league and I guess they offered the best package for club and player. They also have the bonus of European football this coming season(well qualifiers atm anyway).
