Word is Ashley is wanting to secure Janmaat (who is reportedly making his way to Tyneside for a medical) before sanctioning the sale. Seems to be learning from his past mistakes about making sure a replacement is in place before selling (see Carroll & Cabaye).

Really hope he makes his way over and think he'll be pretty good for Newcastle at RB (more defensively than offensively). Will have to make Newcastle more of a priority team to watch with their growing Dutch contingent; Krul, Anita, now Siem de Jong and possibly Janmaat. I'm not convinced on how de Jong will go, particularly after the failure of Luuk. Whilst different players, Luuk has typically been seen as the better of the two (until recently anyway).

Interesting chef...We apparently are keen on both Remy and Ba (plus Rivierie) and Arsenal apparently were unwilling to pay the 80k Remy is looking for (surprising because I believe he is actually on $100k at QPR) hence we might try and tempt him by investing in the squad (though I suspect he still wants UCL football).

Would Chelsea loan/sell Ba to us and pay a portion of his wages? If so, that might increase our chances of going in for him.

Hard to say at this point mate, so many rumours around about what we are doing about the third striker squad spot, about the only guarantees are Costas going to be the man and Torres will be hanging around for at least another season.

Wickham apparently has rejected a new contract offer from Scumberland and with rumours Ellis Short (of class) their owner is looking to sell the club, maybe Connor is looking to jump that sinking ship

(anyone in their right mind should when you're only business in the window has been adding supreme talents like former Wigan superstar Jordi Gomez and West Brom maestro Billy Jones on free transfers as well as Pantilimon).

Signed & sealed. Always get excited by these sorts of deals, similar feel to the Coutinho signing. Young, raw, bags of talent, and no-one really knows what his ceiling will be. He has a few flaws as most players his age tend to have, but having seen the immense improvement Rodgers has been able to coax out of our other youngsters over the last 2 years I'm sure he'll be able to turn this kid into a diamond too.

I think Luuk really struggled from being an out of form/lacking match sharpness player being played out of position in a struggling team in the second half of last season. I would have been interested in going back in for him but apparently Gladbach wanted too much and he ended going back to Holland with PSV I think. With a full preseason and his brother on board, reckon he could have been a decent addition.

I'm super keen on Siem De Jong though, seems like a great leader and professional. He's already been made a VC with Tiote under Colo so the club obviously rate his influence and leadership. He has also said he wants to aim for the CL so (despite maybe being too optimistic) has given the fans a clear sign of intent he wants to see the team playing to its full potential this coming season. From his highlights package, seems to have that great Dutch technical ability and a great burst of acceleration. He will almost certainly be played as our number 10 behind a striker with Cabella likely to play more wide.

De Boer would be a great get IMO - been written off a number of times but just keeps coming back and winning titles. Obviously managing a side that is a class above most of its opposition (unlike the situation at Newcastle) but still not easy to achieve a 4-peat! in 4 seasons as manager. Just knows how to keep winning.

Dutch strikers are thin on the ground at the moment. There is Bast Dost (25), who like Luuk, was top scorer in the Eredivisie (about a goal a game) and got snapped up by a Bundesliga club (Wolfsburg) but has stagnated whilst there, getting less and less game time. Then there is Jeremain Lens (26) who is a regular at Dynamo and was part of the World Cup squad. More of a winger who can play as a striker, he is athletic but just doesn't have the class of his predecessors. Memphis Depay (20) is also a winger who can play as a striker and looks like he could be a good player but is much more comfortable on the left than up front. Marvin Emnes is one of those players who you always hear the word potential for, but is now 26. He has just signed on for 3 years at Swansea but has stiff competition for a starting place. De Jong (23) was perhaps the most promising of the lot but you know his story all too well. I don't hold much hope for the Wolf, who is unlikely to succeed in England IMO, especially at a club like Norwich (where all strikers struggle).

Obviously there is also a bunch of kids for whom it is too early to tell.

Certainly is far cry from when I was growing up when following van Basten's reign as the best player in the World, Bergamp, Kluivert, van Nistelrooy, Hasselbaink, Makaay, Venegoor and then van Persie, Robben and Huntelaar were all running around. Hell, we had top scorers of major European Leagues (EPL, La Liga, etc) who could hardly crack a game at National level.
