It might be fake, but we all know it is 100% the truth of what the AFL is thinking.
Agree, you can bet they’re absolutely jumping for joy getting a Brisbane v Gold Coast semi final.

League wet dream, leading into the inevitable Collingwood v Geelong grand final in 3 weeks.

Put money on Adelaide getting dudded by the umps this week vs Hawks as well. AFL hates the Crows as much as they hate us.

Go on Adelaide.

Pearce had one of the greatest fourth quarters I can remember last night. Absolutely phenomenal. Should he still be captain though.........who knows?
I'm actually not a fan of his foray into political arguments. Yeah, I know everyone has freedom of speech. But expressing your right to speak freely just because you can, doesn't necessarily help everyone, every time.
Like you snd I, he is entitled to an opinion. You have just expressed one here on Pearce.
People think that sportspeople are just that, but they are entitled, like you and, I to express theirs.

The AFL absolutely will want a Geelong v Hawthorn prelim. But I can see them wanting a Collingwood v Hawthorn decider over Pies v Geelong.

Take it to the bank that Hawthorn will get the rub of the green both this week and then the next week if they make it that far. I'm expecting Stevic will be given the task to try and carry this out.

Did people really think that Cox free wasn’t a free kick live? I mean you can slow it down to your life’s content but on first viewing I think the whole stadium thought it was a free. Bit rich to call it rigged. We lost the game twice (second quarter and last 3 minutes)
Honestly, I thought it was pretty obvious Swallow had the ball when tackled live. And said so to my cat 😆 Team should not have let it come down to that, gotta be better, but the scenario where a bloke drops the ball after being tackled happens about 20 times a game and it’s almost always either play on or HTB. Terrible luck for Cox.

I wish the team had tackled with that sort of intent through the game… they didn’t bring anywhere near the required pressure. Inconsistency is still the issue. Had they brought the pressure they had against the Bulldogs, they’d have been 3 goals up at that stage and who cares about the dodgy free.

Anyway, hoping Erasmus resigns but have a bad feeling

Shitty umpiring all game.
Fumbly dumbly Dockers for the first quarter's..
We could have won that game quite easily.
Still proud of the guys after that terrible start to the season.
They put themselves under real pressure for the last half of the season & only just dropped their bundle.
Heave ho

Either way, poor Adelaide are screwed regardless… with us out, they’ll be the umps main targets.

At the game as soon as I saw that tackle I was "oh shit". My immediate thoughs were if Stevic is around (not sure if he was the one who paid it), then we are screwed 100%. Maybe 75% if one of the other umpires was in charge. The Bolton tackle was in front of me. Screamed out "ball" but deep down inside I knew it would never be paid as watching live there didn't seem to be prior.

My biggest issue is one that didn't cost us. The initial non-free to Reid from Stevic as the nearest umpire, before being overruled by another umpire and then Reid kicked the goal. Probably the most blatant free kick you will ever see, Stevic had a perfect view, and was waving play on like his life depended on it. Watching the replay now and you don't actually see it on the TV broadcast, but notice how Stevic (who is to the left of Reid) gets to the man on the mark first. He was closest to the contest (but just off screen) and was calling play on. That screams corruption to me and Stevic has form in this. He will probably get a grand final gig yet again, and I think he is an AFL stooge that gets rewarded for delivering what the AFL wants. It might sound like a ridiculous conspiracy theory, but it has happened time and time again with this guy. AFL has scrubbed it from the official match highlights as well, which is strange considering they found time to fit in the Clark spoil.
Oh god
You’ve got me wound up again

This is what I 100% saw and felt at the ground but was a fair way away

Looked for it in the reaplay last night but there was no camera on the closest umpire

On review the Bolton one was clearly there , telling sign was how quickly they blew the whistle just minutes before against Drizzle up the other end who barely had any prior ( it was kind of there but not much in it = goal )

**** this all hurts so much !

Out of interest was it Stevic that overturned the only 50m we had when Voss pushed someone out of his way ?

And was it Stevic who pinged Drizzle ?

The Bolton one was weird. They’ve been red-hot on HTB all season, to the point that very little or no opportunity has been called as HTB frequently. That would been called HTB most of the time this season. Terrible luck to have that at one end and then the odd one at the other.

It was a free kick.
The ball hit the ground whilst both were still standing. If Cox just let go at that point, it’s fair. But he stupidly held him and aggressive took him to the turf. He didn’t have any awareness that Swallow had let go of the ball.

You think Freo havent done anything about not having the cattle to contend? Can you expand/explain?

Extending Sharp and Banfield? Signing up Dudley, unfortunately he won't make it. Keeping Brodie around the place and not even considering playing him. Young Draper who has shown a bit seems forgotten. Leaving Amiss in the team week in week out when he hardly touches it. Never attempting to get Freddy to even pretend he is competitive.

They are happy with what they have, they must be, they rule a line through any change.

There is not a team in the AFL that doesnt slow it to a crawl with a 1 goal lead with 2:20 on the clock. Collingwood did it for a whole quarter. I dont understand the criticism.
Wasn’t critical of the strategy more critical of Ryan’s kick up the line

Didn’t wait for our numbers and wasn’t close enough to the boundary
In saying that our guys barely even contested it , I think they were a bit caught off guard

Seconds in time we’ll never get back
Can only learn from them and move on

Sorry, I disagree with all of your examples as any kind of example to suggest we aren't looking to make the team better

Yeah it was right in front of me and I thought it was a free live.

The issue I have is there is no way that gets paid in our f50 if the roles are reversed. I also think Shai's HTB gets paid if it's in GCs f50
Said that to the missus on the replay

No way that free against Cox gets paid against Collingwood with seconds on the clock in the oppos forward line

It was a 60/30 free at best and in the context of the game should have been play on
Infuriating!

Yeh look
The right tackle would have been one of those clamp release , clamp release ones but at the same time it was also almost HTB
Put the whistle away and let it go

You continue with the strawman arguments. I only gave detail about his fourth quarter. You have not gone and watched it again and are unwilling to address my actual argument. First it was because of some conjured ill feeling about politics and now I have provided a detailed dissection of every slight negative? I literally watched the fourth again (and back end of the third) and went through his game. I was being told it was the greatest finals quarter played by a KPD... so I went and watched again.

You haven't interacted with one point I made and have refused to look at the last contest in which he was at the drop and couldn't make the contest. I still said he was very very good. It just wasn't the best quarter by a defender in a finals game ever.

Then I mentioned that we should have been further behind than we were at 3/4 time. Do you disagree with that? Do you think we were a little lucky to be as close as we were?

He was MIA for 3 quarters and as our captain that isn't acceptable.

Banfield - I would rather Simpson in the team. He should be depth or the sub.

Nod - I have been saying for weeks he isn't smart enough. We need emerging options on the wing so Nod isn't in the team unless in blistering form and confident.

Fred - See above - have also said he has physical gifts but isn't a smart footballer.

Bolton - Have said he isn't consistent enough and burns easy passes for goals on a weekly basis. Literally 1-3 times per week. He turned up and did some good things in the first half, and remained dangerous for the remainder. But didn't live up to the price we paid for him.

Ryan - has to be following coaches orders, but, the kick outs are an ongoing weakness. We need to remove him from kick out duties or let him do it 10% of the time.

JOM - I have said I hope he isn't in the team next year or is phased out. Johnson and Ras need to be in front of him.

Most of these I have said shouldn't be in the team anymore. All stronger criticism than I gave Pearce. Why is he the only one you will be defensive about? Is that some weird political thing clouding your judgement? See how silly that sounds?
The bottom 6 are all easy targets (and I agree most aren’t good enough and need to be replaced).

Can’t have you pinning the blame for MacAndrews mark on Pearce without even a mention of Josh Treacy!! Come on mate 💁
Treacy was responsible for Andrew in that last play. He lost him and allowed him a clear run at the ball. Ridiculous of you to try blame Pearce without mentioning Treacy.
On JT actually - he had a poor game overall. Was well beaten on the night by MacAndrew over the 4 quarters. Only got going properly late in the game. So if you are criticising Pearce for being subpar for 3 quarters it’s only fair the same standards are applied to JT, our talisman in attack.

What about Jackson & Amiss? They were both very poor.

Jordan Clark had his worst game of the season too.
For 3 quarters of the game, Hayden Young was non existent - then roared into it in the last.

All of these players deserve their share of the blame too. Some of them are Marquee guys for us yet they also drifted along in second gear until it was too late.
The responsibility to be tuned in early for all players rests with themselves mostly. If guys are relying on Pearce to lift them with his pep talks we are already in trouble

Brayshaw and Serong were very good but they were also part of a midfield group that were beaten by Rowell and Anderson overall in the night.

The bottom line is we simply were not good enough. It was the team as a collective not one individual.

sorry haven't read the whole thread but...

how about that blood rule that wasn't? where Rowell won 2 clearances with blood clearly and visibly streaming down his face

i saw that on my tv in a 6ft high close up. thousands of punters could see it at the ground. pretty sure an ump can see it from 8 feet away.

f laughable.

not saying that turns the game, but... Rowell off = 2 clearances we have a better chance of winning.

Sometimes we dont appreciate what we have. Serong best on in another final. I think we all thought Rowell was pretty amazing, both coaches think Serong was better

That's a problem though, Serong could scarcely have played a better game, it must rate in the top 5 games he has ever played, but we still lost. That shouldn't happen.
I'm reading a lot about what we need, outside of wingers not many are mentioning the midfield. I still remain to be convinced we have a premiership midfield.

Does Ras signing on count?
Obviously not because he’s already in the team.
We need to improve the list not just maintain it at the same level.

If we’d lost Raz but brought in Mcvee for example - we haven’t really moved the dial. We just take one step back and another forward to the same place we started.

You have to compare us to the top sides in the comp - what are GC, Brisbane, Geelong, Hawks, etc doing this off season?
The key question is are we improving our list more, about the same, or less then those clubs in the off season.

For me we need to be ruthless with fringe players that aren’t good enough. It’s the only avenue to improvement. Players like Brodie and Aish were just wasted list spots this season. Cut these guys and you might find another Patrick Voss or Dudley, but keeping them around and playing them in finals again next season will give us the same result.

I think the effect of losing Young for basically the whole year is understated and it's impossible to judge the midfield without seeing him play at full strength for a good amount of time. He's clearly our best or 2nd best mid right? How does Gold Coast go losing Rowell for the year, Brisbane losing McCluggage or Adelaide losing Rankine...

I think more of our deficiencies can be put on ball users out of the back half and running half forwards (as soon as Switta is out). The question I ask is if you just took our midfield from this year and swapped it with Brisbane's, is either team better off? I really dont think so. Conversely, if you swapped backlines I think we'd be a ****ing unstoppable juggernaught
