Was bad enough tv.

When Jackson marks its like CMONN!!! Neighbours must think wtf was that.

Then it's just sitting there in shock.

At least the tv you can just turn it off trying not to brik it. Getting out of the ground and the train ride home would've been like a funeral.
Mate, imagine how I felt walking out after being one of the people to stick around to watch Fyfe get chaired off, it was like watching the last 15 years of my time of the supporter slowly disappear from my eyes.

Easier said than done. You can't leave the mark empty for long or else the umpire will make it an "outside 5" situation and nobody can stand the mark. And if someone is standing the mark and someone else runs in from outside the area to switch, it is likely a 50m penalty, especially with Stevic in the area. It is going to have to be someone next to the infringement. That meant only 3 options (after I think a couple of players ... Clark and someone else ... ran away quickly). Cox, Chapman or Erasmus. Admittedly we probably chose the wrong one in hindsight, but the percentage play is stopping it on the goal line, not smothering it.

I wonder if it is illegal to perform a rugby lineout move on the goal line. You could possibly intercept a kick like Swallow's if you were trained and could avoid GC players knocking you over.
Considering we’re talking seconds of reaction time here then can’t really fault the players. If there was a 50 given we’d have their head. The players are too afraid to even get within 10m of the mark (besides when Fyfe got his first mark and Rioli strolls right around him of course then it’s fine).

It’s all the to do with the garbage stand rule the league insists on keeping in our game. With that being essentially the last play of the game there’d also be Jackson/Darcy standing on the mark to Swallow’s right waiting for him to arc out. If the kick was as close to the mark as it was on the night then yeah, it gets smothered, or impeded enough to fall short.

It wasn’t a free live ( was right in front of where we sat ) and still not a free the 5 times I’ve slowed it down
To put it in context I umpire club football so have some clue what I’m on about .

Cox had every right to tackle as Swallow had possession of the ball , however his forward motion held Swallow for a second too long despite the ball being broken loose by a good tackle .

A good umpire with no agenda sees all of this and calls play on

It’s not where we lost the game but it was a bullshit decision

There were at least 10 other moments we stuffed up I could reel off that have all been covered here but that decision against Cox was not how that game should have been decided
Hope I don't have you umpiring me anytime 🤣

Deep down we all knew it was going to take Steve Bradbury for us to win the flag this season.

We just have to aim for top 4 next season and stay there!
Honestly.. thought this team was ready.
Played some seriously good football. Beat everyone in the top 8 bar Brisbane and Geelong.
GWS Away, Gold Coast away, Collingwood away, Bulldogs away.

Feels like wasted.

Brisbane are ripe for taking this week. Injuries, confidence down.

Collingwood absolutely awful in second half of the season. Bradbury their way through a Prelim.

Adelaide are an awful AWFUL minor premier.
No midfield other than Dawson. Overrated forward line with nothing else. Just a perfect team to go out in straight sets and probably choke next year.

Fremantle have a better team.

Just sucks that it came down to Sydney at home (and away..). And a shit Melbourne game at MCG for top 4.

You are allowed to change who you have on the mark in a game of footy. It probably happens 50 times during the game. The controversial one was the Nasiah Waganeen Milera one with the infrigement in the square a few weeks ago, and the umps actually told Melbourne they were not allowed to change the man on the mark.
Aside from that it is fair game.

I know this was in jest and I am slowly moving on but answer me these questions

Do you think that free was 100% there based on replays from all angles ?
I have it at 70% not there

Do you think in the context of the game it was the right call in that moment and location ?

Do you think if that was at the G that it would be paid against Collingwood in the same location and time to cost them the game ?

Anyway it’s all over and it’s been a very tough few days
I’m pretty gutted to be honest

We weren’t good enough this year.
Have almost no elite ball users in defence and our forward pressure is not at premiership level.
Doing a lot right, but to me there are 5 or 6 teams better than us this year and we finished where we deserved.
Need to improve the list in the offseason or you are looking at another 6th to 10th scenario again next year.

Don't discount the natural improvement of a young squad with another preseason and more experience as well, but agree another creative half-back and a pressure small forward would be good gets. I also worry about having decent KPD depth, Davies and Draper aren't the type. OMac is OMac.

Fremantle, GWS, Western Bulldogs, Gold Coast and Brisbane Lions are in the process of allowing cameras into their inner sanctums as they push for finals.

Sources said the concept revolved more around the star players in each side - such as Marcus Bontempelli and Toby Greene – and their journey, rather than the broader club.

The final product will focus on the last six weeks of the season and then the finals series. Box to Box Films took the sports world by storm with the release of Formula 1 series Drive to Survive in 2019."

100% It's too much of an ask for a WA team to win it from outside the top 4. Too much travel to be on the road for 3 straight weeks. The only way it would be remotely possible is if there was a derby final in week 2 or 3.

It was always going to be an uphill battle, in the heat of the moment leaving the ground I was devestated, I'm at peace with it now, just wasn't our time, should have beaten Gold Coast, but it is what it is. Boys shouldn't let it eat away at them, rather they should use it as motivation to hit the ground running in pre-season.

We need to start off the season well and win the 'easy' games, some of the losses against awful teams screwed us in terms of finishing top 4.

That loss against the Saints came back and bit us in the arse. Also the Sydney loss at home. Win either of those and we finished top 4. >sigh< Hindsight is a real CU in the NT

We need to get behind them and show we believe in them - it’s amazing how much better they play when the crowd gets behind them

Yeah, and ruined the sport for all the purists who have been following Formula 1 long before Netflix turned it into "The Fast and The Furious".

See they've got rid of the bounce.

I don't think I've really seen it touched on much elsewhere but re-watching the last bounce of this game and it should have definitely been recalled.

Glad that's changing tbh. Zero excuses for unfair ruck contests in the middle now.

How about getting rid of the rucks having to nominate who contests the ball ups. It’s under 9’s stuff what a joke. It’s simple if any one teams has a third man in it’s a free to the oppo. Can’t believe this rule wasn’t sorted.

Some teams were exploiting it. It happened in a couple of games after they made the no 3rd man up rule. Some teams had two rucks attend a stoppage but only one would compete - the problem was identifying which one.

There was one with Richmond where they were using Grigg as the ruck but Nankervis also went to the ball up - an opposition mid player thinking Nankervis would take the hit-out blocked out Grigg to get in front position to contest the ball, so it got ruled as a ruck infringement.

That's why they had the ruck nominate, so everyone was clear about it.
