For Christmas year before last, December 2006 my partner bought me a really good pair of sunnies for quite a bit of money.

Come February this year (14 months later) the lens falls out of one side and the frame is split where it joins the bridge. Lens has a chip on it cos it fell on the floor when I was walking.

Take said sunnies back to store where purchased with receipt, advised that they are out of warranty but will see what they can do.

2 weeks later get a call saying sorry we can't fix them cos they are out of warranty but we will sell you a replacement pair for 50% off.

They have to be kidding right!

Would you replace them with the risk that it may happen again - I think not so I said I would consider another brand but no they said it would be a like for like replacement. So I took it up with their head office and got the offer of you can buy another pair of any brand for 50% off.

So all up I would have had to have spent $600 in 14 months for a pair of sunnies which if these ones don't go more than 12 months I'm up for more dosh again!

I will add I really looked after these sunnies as a) they were a gift and an expensive gift and b) I realised after wearing a decent pair of glasses that those funky $2 crazy clarks ones do nothing for your eyes!!

Same thing happened to be sunnies. Not quite as expensive, but still not something you'd expect to happen to a $150 pair of sunnies. The whole frame of the sunnies where the lens goes in was bent and the lens didn't clip back in properly.

I suppose logic says I shouldn't have been running with them on, but again I know of $5 glasses that don't bend when they fall off your head onto the concrete.

My step-dad used to work for BOC, and they had an over-stock of sunglasses there that they sell in the stores for $15, he got me a pair, this was about 6 years ago, I've never a problem with them, they are still in great conditions, I wear them when I play cricket, they don't fall of my head, I can even bowl with them off if it's really bright, they have some sort of special tinted lens that further reduces glare (I guess being designed by a safety company, they specialise in things like that), they're an awesome pair of sunglasses, and what tops it all off, they look good, and I wouldn't swap a $15 pair of sunglasses for a $500 pair anyday of the week.

yup I work on a construction site and am currently wearing a pair of safety glasses. Not the best looking things in the world but they are doing the job for now.

But that's besides the point of this post.

Not really LL, I'm just promoting that cheap sunglasses can be effective, as mine have lasted 6 years and haven't broken and are fine. :thumbsu:

Rather than spending a small fortune on sunglasses, which I can spend on far more important things, I've spent $15 on sunglasses

I can't get cheap sunglasses.

I just got my first pair of prescription sunglasses today... $290 later.

Fortunately private health care paid the entire lot. :D

Got a prescription pair of Wayfarers a few months ago, best $0 I ever spent. I think they're normally about $320 so a bargain in my eyes :D

I can't remember what mine are. Blue Jay or something. I don't really care, I didn't pay for them. They look good, and now I'll be able to finally drive without the sun pissing me off. Just can't wait till I get them.

Are you sure this is the whole truth? If I was working for a sunglasses store/company there is no way I would believe that the lens fell out while you were just walking around. More likely to believe they were dropped or something at some stage, maybe without your knowledge.

sunglass hut have a policy, they will sell you antoher pair of the same glasses @ 50% off if your glasses break... don't think it matters how they were broken, you could step on them if you wanted to...

I bought my sunnies for $25 from the Falls Festival 2006. Still going strong. I must admit I don't really care about the odd scratch.
