One thing Whiting does not talk about is Lyons character. When Suns were down in games last year, he gave up easily, did not work hard, was lazy. He was not really a great teammate in adverse situations. Great fit for Lions midfield, also he is now healthy and motivated. Good luck to him.

^^^
Simple analysis is B players can have A moments in better teams with better players around them
Lyons has shown that
I think he's an ok player but he's not what I'd describe as a heavy lifter
He's on the chairlift and then skiing downhill, not earning his turns
If he had Witts Swallow and Harbs' determination he'd be a Selwood

A few of us have been saying for a while now the Dew doesn’t use players strengths, Sam Mitchell would never of gotten a game under Dew as he was too slow and short., what Dew seems to be missing is as Fish says look to there strengths, eg Brodies ball winning

Is there a readable link Jen, or can you give us the gist

Okay so it'll take small amounts of it. Its quite detailed.

THE PRIORITY PICK AND USE OF IT

It’s understood Gold Coast are looking at every aspect of the traditional means of building a list, from player retention allowances, free agency, draft system, academy model and more.

The priority pick discussion has been interesting. Our focus has been around developing a debate or discussion about the AFL on the whole system,” Haines said.

So whether Gold Coast get a priority pick or not, how will they use their top selection at the national draft?
“We are still working through what the draft pool looks like,” Haines said.

THE NEED FOR EXPERIENCED TALENT AND WILL THEY COME?

“The level of interest from player managers and players from other clubs has been really strong and that is indicative of a change in perception,” Haines said.
“The perception of the football club in the market has shifted significantly, particularly in the last 12 months.

“We have re-signed nine players publicly this year and we will hopefully have some more coming in the next few months.”

WHERE TO FROM HERE, BUILDING THE LIST FURTHER

So how do they do it? The club believes they have a handful of players who can develop into A-graders, want to draft 23-year-olds who can grow with the group and sign experienced talent with more quality then they have in the past.
They have 25 to 30 players on the list who are genuine challengers for a spot in the best 22 each week but they need that to raise to 30-35.

“Part of our longer term footy strategy is this phase we are in at the moment, building the right foundations and fundamentals across the whole footy program,” Haines said.
“We can have all the ambition in the world, but if we don’t build great systems and solid foundations, the level of ambition will not be achieved”.

WILL JACK MARTIN FOLLOW OTHER BIG NAMES OUT THE DOOR?

“But it’s also about where the best environment is for him and his partner to reside in.
“Those discussions are ongoing but we feel the openness and honest of those have been really strong.”

ON FIELD GAME STYLE AND WHAT’S NEXT IN ITS DEVELOPMENT

“The coaching group has been working hard to build a foundation of defence and contest,” Haines said.

“But we are also starting to layer in what the offence looks like and what our ball movement looks like.
“At different times over the past four to six weeks we have seen that ball movement start to take shape.

Nothing surprising here. The AFLs current Free Agency model and PP system really has us at a disadvantage. It sounds like our only good option for the future is to try and use the draft to get elite kids and FA/Rookie to pick up mature players with "character" - year after year after year untill we get lucky right?

No entirely surprised.
Barry rigby as match day doctor is an icu/ed specialist.
Not a dedicated sports physician.
Not sure of his role during the week.
Those little things, the scans, stability in off field departments make a massive difference that is just not recognised externally. I hope this is all been addressed.

Barry was the Wallabies doctor way before The Suns and tbh an ICU ED guy is probably who you want on match day
He had a very small role to play during the week other than to attend to general ailments and make referrals
I think Brown would be referring to the sports performance guys and their revolving door
Barry wasn't looking after soft tissue injuries other than initial assessment on match day
It's interesting that Ramsay Health was a major sponsor for years but they seemed more interested in pushing their maternity suites rather than doing serious tie ups with Pindaras Emergency Dept and diagnostic facilities
Thats the sort of stuff where administration failed

Yeah for sure on match day.
Definitely need a sports physician to be involved in the weekly rehab / consultations.

Gold Coast Suns midfielder Brayden Fiorini says he is committed to the AFL club

It’s home now at the Gold Coast.”
“I thought I was hitting the wall the last few weeks and getting a bit fatigued,” Fiorini said.
“I just had to refresh and keep training hard. It’s more the mental I think, the mental drain.
“I’m loving it this year and being out on the park.”

Fiorini on Brodie
I have been tracking and helping him a lot,” Fiorini said.
“I see how hard he trains during the week and obviously disappointing the last couple of years he has been in and out of the side.
“That was due to a few different reasons but he has been working on his defensive transition and workrate as a mid and I feel as though he has improved in that space dramatically.
“He is already having a big impact for us. It’s starting to click for him.

That’s very encouraging news! With Fiorini being a Collingwood supporter growing up I was worried he might explore options next year to return to Vic. Thank God we don’t need to worry about that. Extend his contract now.

Also need to extend Miles too.

Wasn't keeping Fiorini happy the reason that Macpherson was retained on the rookie list before he had his 'explosion/maturation' (ie the time before we were sure he'd make it as an AFL footballer)... pretty sure they are/always have been best mates. On the screens in half time breaks etc they are always chatting to each other.

Anyone hear the sacked podcast with bluey on?
Pretty interesting stuff.
They had no choice when taking k hunt, he reckoned he would of been better off going to Brisbane.
Was begging Scotty Clayton for more experienced players..
Sounds like he’s trying to rewrite history again.
Wouldn’t believe a thing that comes out of his mouth

Not sure anyone was holding a gun to his head at selection over guys like Sumner and Wllikinson who anyone could see weren't up to standard

Fiorini on Brodie

Hopefully he continues to take Brodie under his wing in the off-season and really gets his fitness and running up to scratch, given that from some reports he was finishing dead last in the pre-season runs.

I think it was year that he was training in September with Jack Scrimshaw. If you are using Scrimshaw as your yard stick for fitness you are likely to disappoint when you then need to train to AFL standard.

Hopefully we see the article of him employing his own personal trainer over the off-season and he comes back running massive PBs
