That's probably the most confusing part. Despite having a year to run on his contract, Brisbane booked Risch on what they had hoped would be a one way ticket to Melbourne so he could tour Carlton's facilities in an attempt to trade him for Fevola. That's one sure fire way to make a player feel worthless! Adding to that, Voss explained in his Open Mike interview that he told Bradshaw that he wasn't being considered for involvement in the Fevola trade and then completely flipped it on him three days later and sent him down to Melbourne to tour Carlton's facilities as well. So who knows what they told Risch at the time but it obviously cut them both pretty deeply because they had both left the club less than 12 months later.

The Lions put together something special for his son Kai's 10th birthday that night and showed him on the big screen at halftime as one of Brisbane's members who was celebrating a birthday. They even made a big deal about it on their website before the game:
