Injury SUNS Injury Thread

SUNS GM – Football Operations Jon Haines told the Qscan Injury Update that the decision to undergo surgery was one the club made in consultation with specialists and Rowell and his family.

“Matt met with a surgeon again today in Sydney and the outcome from that is he’ll undertake some surgery early next week,” Haines said.

“This is the first real injury that Matt’s had in his whole career so it was a new experience for him.

“We wanted to make sure that Matt’s parents and Matt himself had really good input and a good understanding of the options available to them.

“Ultimately it was a decision that Matt had to make so we had to make sure that we laid all the evidence and all the research and all the information out for him and his family to consider and for them to make an informed opinion which they have.”

The plan is for Rowell to undergo surgery in Sydney and stay with the team before returning to the Gold Coast after Round 7.

n other news, Irish recruit Luke Towey has come out of the scratch match over the weekend with a fractured eye socket.

Haines said Towey too would require surgery which he would have this week.

“It was quite a nasty injury and just an unlucky elbow to the eye,” Haines said.

“He’ll have surgery this Thursday and then obviously he’ll require some time out of the game to make sure that heals properly as well.”

Fractured eye socket. Oof, that does not sound pleasant.

Was McPherson injured? Only four touches in last match.

He kicked two goals for you last time you played Sydney, if he is fit, is he likely to spend much time forward?

Just out of form and stuck in the forward line. He's plenty fit but at risk of being dropped.

“It was really pleasing to see us come out of the match last week with no injuries,” Bull told the Qscan Injury Update.

“We have a five-day break ahead of our Thursday night match which means there’s a more significant emphasis on recovery strategies this week. The players have recovered really well so far and are excited by the opportunity to build up their preparations for the game.”

George Horlin-Smith (foot) is tracking well, beginning to work through his running progressions last week and Rory Thompson (knee) is expected to integrate into the main training program within the next fortnight.

One thing that I'm noticing this year is that when the injury report says 3 weeks for player X, a week later player X is listed as 2 weeks.. underrated great detail for my psyche...

Who would've thought we could live in a world where we get to the end of July with an Injury list looking like this!

The company who sponsor the injury report must be hating it, nothing to speak about haha.
To be honest if the injuries are that low and only 9 rounds To go I would be pulling the 5 players out who need the most development and send them to Qafl .They are more likely to develop faster there than playing those scratch matches

Hush you.

If we don't speak of the injury list no one can end up on it. :p

Would really be nice if we could have the gingers back though.

Hi Folks,

I have Rowell in a keeper league. I was very upset to see such a talented player go down.
Is he any chance of reappearing this season, or has he been wrapped in cotton wool for the season?

Cheers.

Know that but think they could make an exemption given we have 46 players , they would have to leave the hub but I can think about of a couple where it may be their only chance to stay on the list by dominating in the qafl

surely any AFL listed player should dominate the 3rd grade.
Obviously projects like Conroy and Murtagh may not but any other player who is within 2 years of getting a game should be destroying it.

It's a bit stronger this year as the neafl players are all in their , the project players you mentioned really should be sent back there as I can definitely see their development has stalled in the current system
