Geez poor guy

“He had an incident in the game that required him to come from the ground and subsequently we’ve had some scans taken,” Haines said.

“He’s got a partial tear to his ACL in his non reconstructed (right) knee.”

“It’s an unusual one given it’s a partial tear, so we just want to make sure we get all the right opinions before we make a decision on the best way forward.”

Although disappointed at the time, Haines said Thompson was now focussing his efforts onto the best way back to full fitness.

“Rory was tracking really well; the reconstructed knee was in terrific shape and physically he was in really good condition.

“He’s obviously disappointed and frustrated but once he gets a clear indication of what the path is forward, he’ll be able to put all his energy into that and we’ll make sure we support him with that journey.”

Didn't we give him a multi-year deal? Thought he would still have a couple of years left.

But yes, agree. Very much sucks. :(
Yeah listed till 2023, but the bloke will have had nearly 3 years without playing an AFL game by the time he is fit again with no other set backs (which isn't a given).

He won't be making a meaningful contribution on field.

Lucky we signed everyone to long term contracts, so that everyone saw we are committed.

Maybe the players who are coming off knee reconstructions shouldn't be given 4 year deals until age 32.

Sucks for Rory and the club as we’re definitely a better team when we’ve got him fit and firing. At his age it’s going to be very tough to come back and make a spot in the team his own.

Disparaging remarks about Rory will be met with swift death

Also:

What constitutes disparaging?

The list management handing out long term deals to injury prone players is a reflection of the list management department, not the player themselves.

How does that work in terms of ACL recovery? It just heals itself over time?
My wife plays top level sport.
Tore her ACL completely
Julian Feller advised,
Option A - std reco - 12 month recovery
Option B - the ligament can re-knit based on where it was sitting (given Rory's is only a partial its sitting in the right spot)

Option B - recovery time varies but for my wife it was 4 months and she was back playing.
He issued a series of muscle strengthening exercises for muscles that support the knee.
Two years on and the wife has never had an issue.
Apparently in Soccer it's quite common for players to tear ACLs and choose the no surgery option, strengthen leg muscles and the mind learns to protect the knees instability through the other leg muscles

My dog had a partial tear and got PRP injections into the ligament and the vet said it was common for sports people to get the same procedure

Gold Coast’s Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull told the Qscan Injury Update that it was deemed a knee reconstruction would be the best course of action for the 29-year-old.

“Rory had exploratory surgery on Monday for the surgeon to determine whether the partial ACL tear and the fibres that were left were strong enough to withstand the forces they need to withstand moving forward,” Bull said.

“Unfortunately that wasn’t the case so Rory’s had a reconstruction on his knee and he’ll be in at the club in the next few days to commence his rehab.”

There goes another year.

Someone hold me.

Young gun Connor Budarick will miss the remaining two games of the 2020 season after injuring his collarbone in the QClash on Wednesday night.

Budarick went in hard to a contest with Brisbane’s Lincoln McCarthy but SUNS Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull told the Qscan Injury Update the first-year defender wouldn’t require a long stint on the sidelines.

“Connor suffered a fracture to his clavicle, or collarbone, in the game in the third quarter after a bump,” Bull said.

“He’ll be in a sling for a couple of weeks and we’ll go from there.

“He’ll be able to resume his full off-season and pre-season program and we don’t anticipate any long-term damage there for Connor.”

In good news, Jarrod Harbrow will be available for selection again after being managed with a shoulder injury.

“Harbs has joined in full training, did some contact work yesterday and will do some more on the weekend before being available for selection,” Bull said.
