I love how people are paying out on the forwards and complaining about our disposal efficiency during the match. If the ball isnt reaching our forwards cleanly, how can they kick goals?
See your point but we did take 15 marks I50 and Waite kicked 2.4 and Levi 0.5

Looks like a nice day here today.
All dressed up and heading off to the country to find a good pub, have a great lunch and enjoy a nice glass of wine or two.
Cracker day here in north Vic. Looking forward to a nice head clearing walk!
Looks like it will be a finals per 09 for me, as in no Carlton to break my heart, cause they did it two weeks early!

I was at the game last night. One of the most insipid, piss weak efforts I have EVER witnessed. Really only McLean, Scotland and Judd and to a lesser extent Carrots and Waite gave anything like an above par performance.

Gibbs is a soft, weak seagull. For the entire second half he was running around without an opponent and still couldn't get near it. Trade while he has currency.

Poor old Tommy Bell had a bit of a shocker but can be excused due to experience.

Casboult is a fantastic mark, but seriously, SERIOUSLY the worst shot for goal I have ever seen. Needs to spend 50 hours a week every week in the off season working on and perfecting a solid kicking action. He needs to start from scratch. If he can sort that out he'll be a great forward. If he can't, well then he won't make it I'm afraid.

Judd needs to hand the captaincy over to Murphy.

There is just so much that was wrong last night. Shameful and pathetic.

Good on the Suns though. That's definitely the best they've ever played. They were faster, cleaner and wanted the ball more.

As much as I wish Judd would hand over the captaincy to lessen the pressure on himself, I cannot possibly understand how you can write the first sentence and follow it up with Judd handing the captaincy over to Murphy.

Wouldn't you want your captain to be grouped in the giving 'anything like an above par performance' group rather than the 'insipid, piss weak effort' group?

I suspect if it results in significant change it is the best thing that could of happened

We may now in fact be much closer to our next flag

Malthouse however will need twelve months to fix our structures

Usually i go for a walk to grab the paper on a sunday morning, but not today:(

Absolutely gutted by the players efforts last night, i wont be attending this weeks game either....they can do whatever they want with players, coaches etc at seasons end. i really don't give a stuff at the moment.

Pissing away a finals shot to GCS?? FMD, this club is not what it once was.

The Saints did our bit for you. Sent two off for early operations, rested Riewoldt for remainder of the season and picked a swag of kids to play.

Banking on Carlton beating Suns and North beating Freo and then Lyin and the purple mob watching finals on TV with us. Very disappointed that Carlton started playing finals two weeks early.

Now need North Melbourne and Melbourne beating Freo to keep them out of the finals.

Sometimes it just doesn't go your way and we seemed to have one of those nights last night. All key indicators were in our favor but we couldn't convert on the scoreboard and as a result another embarrassing loss to add to the season of discontent.

I got to thinking about Levi's obvious weakness, his kicking, and for the life of me can not understand how an AFL Rookie listed footballer who has been on our list for three years can't kick for goal when he is being groomed to be a Key position forward. It has been plain obvious to everyone for sometime now that he has a deficiency in this area and surely one of the assistant coaches and or the senior coach has to take responsibility to correct his terrible kicking action. It's all good and mighty that he can take a grab but seriously not being able to kick a football cost us big time last night. I am not saying that we lost the game because of his lack of kicking skill, more about the fact that his poor kicking ability has not been improved by the coaches in the past three years, and if it has improved, then you have to ask why the hell did we draft a kid who can't carry out one of the most fundamentally basic skills in our game, kicking.

As for the result last night, I think it sums up the season as a whole. When we are on we have the talent and footballing ability to dominate any side and when are not we play a brand of football that is utterly disrespectful to all who have proudly supported the navy blue jumper. I cannot remember a more pathetic and disappointing performance from a Carlton side in years. With so much to play for, a finals berth, a coach whom the players supposedly fully support (however their actions say otherwise) and the respect of their supporters and the footy mad public, to lose to an undermanned Gold Coast in the manner in which they did is a blight on those players commitment to all involved with the club and will take a very long time to forget.

I hope next year, when we have a new coach that the players are finally held accountable for their performances and who ever that coach is will instill into this playing group when playing for the Carlton Football Club your give your all and more every time you cross that white line representing the navy blue, otherwise there's the door. I am sick to death of watching this once proud club with such a rich history of success be dragged down any further by players who don't know the meaning of pride, commitment, hard work, a hunger to win and above all humility.

Nah, Murph just had an off night. He's a more natural leader, more of an extrovert. I don't think Judd has ever really relished the role of Captain.

Last night it was Murphy that brought the boys together (not sure when, maybe half time) and gave them a talking to. Judd was no where to be seen.

I'd rather Judd just does what he does best, play footy.

What a spin-out.
  • We start the preseason as the most rubbish side going around.
  • Then, we get into the real stuff and look absolutely unbeatable.
  • The coach gets publicly cocky and starts talking about resting blokes for the finals (I noticeably cringe at this)
  • Having said that, the wheels, drive shaft and sections of the exhaust fall off. The season is in tatters.
  • Somehow, we begin to rebuild and get some momentum going. Some young talent are lifting us over the line. We smash the Dons.
  • Then, once more, the dopey coach opens his mouth with - How dangerous we're gonna' be if (read: when) we make the finals....(again, I cringe)
  • POP. The bubble bursts. Season is over.
  • Coach needs to shut-the-F'k-up.
  • The players need some serious leadership - they are 20 something year old men - they need strong leadership to guide them. This is what good coaching staff provide. Leadership.

Apparently, the world ends this year, so ladies and gentlemen that's it - no more flags for us. Ever.

I'm getting a lot of 'likes' from opposition supporters for a post where I told them to stop 'liking' our meltdown posts. I reckon they have got me on a technicality here. Thanks for helping get me on the path to my next exulted BF trophy status.

I love how Essendon supporters are the first to sink the boots in. Short memories.

Very short they got smashed by both sides in the last two weeks that lost to GC.

Its such a close competition you only need to be off your edge 5-10% and this type of thing happens. GC aren't a bad football side , they have plenty of young talent takes things like poor accuracy etc to keep them in a game. The young sides will always win 3-5 games per year, we just have to hope it's not against our sides when they have their down day.

At least we ruined Essendon
Emabarrassed Richmond

And humbled the Pies

...but unfortunately, it looks like the players and coaching staff actually think like this too. Which is appalling. Until we get it through our heads that every game matters exactly the same, no matter what the venue or opposition, then results like Port Adelaide and the Suns will just keep rolling on.

I'm so hungover... And shattered. Ahhh blue boys :( idiots.
You're not alone. I'm guessing the review is on in earnest now. Last night makes it hard to mask any problems we have. It might be the catalyst for necessary change, playing, coaching or administrative.

It's a bit like that Cazbah. take a few steps, recall, shake the head, do some more avoidance stuff. Recall, feel ill, shake the head, wonder why, and on it goes.

I was looking forward to cheering on Norf today too. Had a lovely walk, and spring is in the air, but, nothing can chase away the ghosts of that match.
