There's a few stars in there like Will Ashcroft, Harris Andrews and possibly still Dayne Zorko. Some really solid citizens in there as well like Jaspa Fletcher, Eric Hipwood, Jack Payne, Keidean Coleman, Aliir Aliir, Bodhi Uwland, Ben Keays and Mabior Chol. There's no doubt the team will be considerably stronger in a few years from now when guys like Levi Ashcroft, Jed Walter, Ethan Read, Zeke Uwland, Sam Marshall, Ty Gallop, Leo Lombard and Dylan Patterson show their worth. That's why I'd start state football against a weaker New South Wales team in 2027 and go from there. Aim to play WA or SA in 2028/29.
Yeah they'll need time if these players can reach their potential. But given SOO would need to be a big draw card for the afl, I can't even see them doing it v a weak NSW (that side I can't even imagine if they could field a team)
I suspect it'll get moved around between SA, WA, VIC for a few years, and if they do continue it.. if a QLD team becomes a force 2029-2030 then possibly.

Suppose they could do an All stars side featuring the best players from QLD/NSW in the meantime

It's anyone's guess at this stage, but I do think today's decision regarding Will Ashcroft's eligibility probably indicates that there is a plan to have Queensland compete in a state game at some point in the next few years. It just wouldn't make sense to rule him ineligible if this truly was intended to be a one off exhibition game between WA and Victoria only.

Just to be clear, I wouldn't only have QLD vs NSW playing. I would couple that game with an SA v Victoria game on the same weekend/day. Two state games to wet the appetite for the start of the 2027 season.

And yes, NSW can also field a state side of similar strength to QLD. They've got a several genuine superstars in the midfield like Erol Gulden, Isaac Heeney and Tom Green. Collingwood's Harry Perryman and Lachie Schultz would almost definitely get selected for NSW as well.

Question - do you think Jamie Elliott will get named in the last batch of players for Victoria? I think his 2025 form probably warrants selection for the Big V.

Good question. On form, he should, but I'm not sure. He wasn't even in the AA team lol

Why haven't CODE named Jamie Elliott as a notable player yet to be picked for Victoria? Surely Elliott deserves a mention ahead of a guy like Paul Curtis... Is it possible that Elliott isn't considered Victorian? I've heard him say he considers himself a Queenslander (not that it means anything after seeing Ashcroft's quotes today) but he did live in WA between the ages of 2-10 and QLD between the ages of 10-14. He's not named in the notable WA players yet to be picked either -so maybe Elliott is considered a Queenslander? I'd probably question that one if it did happen, but I'm just wondering why he hasn't come into consideration for Victoria or WA considering the year he had.

Possibly.
He moved to vic as a teenager (even though he was born here)
Was in QLD from 10-14?
And in WA from age 2.
So its a bit hard to know what state he would qualify in.

Possibly. It really just depends what kind of eligibility criteria the AFL chooses to use. Levi was born in Queensland and first played junior footy here for Broadbeach and Southport (like Will) so it may just end up being the exact same ruling.

Stars? Probably not. Players? Yes. My QLD team would look like this:

B: B.Uwland, H.Andrews J.Fletcher
HB: D.Zorko, A.Aliir, K.Coleman
C: J.Bowes, A.Davies, L.Ashcroft
HF: L.Lombard, E.Hipwood W.Graham
F: T.Gallop, J.Walter, J.Rogers
R: M.Chol, B.Keays, W.Ashcroft
Int: E.Read, J.Payne, S.Marshall, Z.Uwland, D.Patterson
Coach: M.Voss

Depth: B.Scott, C.Budarick, S.Ryan, C.Wagner, B.Reville, D.Annable, B.Addinsall, J.Murray, K.Coulson, L.Gulbin, C.Graham, K.White, S.Brain

I'd start by having Queensland play New South Wales in February 2027 on the same weekend that South Australia presumably hosts Victoria and just see how it goes.
This team will getting ****ing pumped lol

By New South Wales? We're clearly not ready to play a state like Victoria. That would be foolish, but a game against NSW would be interesting IMO. Wittsy would be NSW's starting ruckman haha.

Witta (NSW) v Ethan (QLD) haha

It could actually happen haha. That's one of the intriguing parts of Origin footy if they actually do bring it back. Cripps (WA) has talked about lining up on Weitering (VIC) if Dean Cox decides to throw him forward at any point in time. He reckons he'll just do what he'd normally do in any regular AFL game because he wants to win.

It's looking unlikely that Jeremy Cameron will recover in time for the Origin match next week and I'm thinking this means Ben King will get the call up for the Big V. He's the next best available key forward from Victoria IMO.

I'll add this quote from Jen here too. Collins has now been selected for the Big V as well. So we've got Anderson, Rowell, Collins and potentially also King playing for Victoria as well as Powell playing for WA next week. We're significantly contributing to the spine of that Victorian team!

As per my post above, I thought that might be the case. I figured it was either King or Curnow that was next in line for the Big V key forward position after Cameron and Darcy. Pretty crazy to think that a large amount of the 2026 Victorian spine are our players:

B: Collins
M: Rowell, Anderson
F: King

I guess it just goes to show how much people rate our lineup at the moment. It's awesome recognition for these guys and I reckon they'll look back on this game (and potentially any other state games) as being one of their career highlights.

The guys at AFL Queensland had a crack at creating a hypothetical 2026 QLD state team. Not a bad effort, but straight off the bat you'd have to take out both Charlie Cameron (already playing for WA) and Lachie Weller (eligible for Tasmania). I'm putting Lombard in the small forward position to replace Cameron and Patterson in to replace Weller. What do you guys think?

Not sure how you would have Budarick ahead of B Uwland in defence.

B. Uwland to BP
Shuffle someone else to HF.
Budarick Or Weller to wing and Bowes HF.

Well that’s awkward Tasmania also named Lachie weller
