We need to get someone in to teach our backs some moves. It was inside ball to Dellit EVERY TIME. Seriously, my Under 15s team has more creativity in the back line than these guys.

Thought the waratahs were outplayed by the highlanders tonight. Lucky to get within a point.

The highlanders are very good at the breakdown and have a bit of flair in the backs. They play a good style now. Pretorious looked dangerous for the tahs but I got the feeling the whole game that the waratahs were reliant on highlanders mistakes. They need to improve their attack because the better teams are hard to beat with the waratahs strategy...which I would liken to trying to strangle teams. Counter attack and attack from turnovers are two areas where I think they could improve a lot. The NZ teams are just so much better at that.

Was rapt with the performance.

Very happy that we now have the confidence to play attacking rugby against good defensive sides instead of turning the game into a slugfest like we have in the past.

Waratahs :o

Glad I missed the game and don't really want to watch the replay, but from what I've heard they were awful. And they would have had to be to lose at home to the force.

Not a great week for the Australian teams so far in the interconference games either, though I was impressed with the Brumbies and with a bit more composure they should have at least drawn that game. The Reds let go a 17-0 lead, though considering Lucas and Harris both went off injured and they were forced to play Genia at 10, you can forgive them I guess.

What idiot scheduled the rebels game during the Melbourne grand prix? Sunday afternoon games are generally a great idea but not in Melbourne this weekend.

Pretty poor from the Tahs. Was at the game and the crowd were getting pretty stuck into the Tahs. "Carter's a w***er" could be heard ringing around my area as soon as he got on the field.

Barnes chose to kick on quite a few pieces of play that he had numbers out wide. Mumm has to go. Dump him for Timani.

Pleased with the win :)

We played a lot better than we did last week, effective kicking, better goal kicking, mire creativity with the backs.

anyone else see the rebels v cheetahs? what a game, and a brilliant finish for the cheetahs.

Yeah I saw parts of it, great try to win the game at the death.

The cheetahs are a fun team to watch, willing to run it from anywhere. Given the heartbreaking loss they had last week to the brumbies I guess they deserved this one.

Rebels only real spark from the bits of the game I saw was James O'Connor. He's such a gun player. Possibly the best stepper in world rugby at the moment.

I liked the one "Halangahu sucks, leave him in New Zealand" chant! They were spot on...remind me how when Barnes is fit he is still at fly half! Carter made more metres in 5 minutes than Halangahu made in 75! He is absolute tripe! Forwards were fine...although TPN had an off night with 3 or 4 throws not straight.

I have been to both Rebels' home games this year. Loving it so much. Even though I am a Reds supporter, just so good to see live rugby. Rebels unlucky not to win. Force very much deserved the win over the Tahs. Should have won by more. Dominated the key stats.

Rebels just have to find some better quality forwards to put in front of their talented back line. Guys like Mitch Inman and Lachie Mitchell will become good players (Mitchell has been doing alright atm without much of a pack anyway) if they can get some better grunt up forward. And guys like JOC and KB will torch opposition sides with a strong pack in front of them.

If I were the Rebels I'd be hunting down a few of Dave Dennis, James Hanson, Beau Robinson (Liam Gill looks like the future at the Reds so I don't know how much game time Beau will get), Sam Carter, Kane Douglas and Ed Quirk. Young or medium-aged abrasive forwards who work their guts out.

You'd have to consider throwing as much as possible at Pocock too. Get him down to play with KB and JOC (2 of his closer mates from the Wallabies) and you continue to build the foundations of a very strong side.

If you think the rebels are getting pocock you're dreaming. His girlfriend wouldn't let him leave WA.

The rebels look better with JOC at 10 anyway.

They need to use the Cipriani money to buy a couple of good forwards.

I've just seen footage of the Ioane tackle and can someone please tell me how it's worth a 5 week suspension?

The IRB have basically just decided to have a no tolerance policy towards tackles where the legs and hips are lifted up above the shoulders and the player driven towards the ground head or neck first. These tackles could very easily result in a broken neck.

The Sharks player did brace himself with his arm and appeared to land on his shoulders, but that's not what the punishment is for. It was certainly a dangerous tackle. A little borderline, but if you make the punishment harsh enough these lifting tackles will stop happening. Sometimes they might happen a bit by accident but in those situations it is possible for the tackler to not go through with the tackle and let the player down gently.

Rugby league will eventually move in the same direction as well AuckMel, just wait and see. All the major contact football codes have put an increasing emphasis on player safety in recent years as sports science is uncovering the consequences of repeated head and neck injuries. The NFL and IRB are probably at the forefront and it will only continue. There's a duty of care to the players to not allow this sort of stuff. You may think it's soft but all it takes is one guy to break his neck in a high profile game to set the sport back 15 years. And aside from that you don't want to see kids lifting other kids up and driving them into the ground at the top of their spine because they see someone like Ioane do it and think he's a hero.

If you like you can read the detailed justification for the judicial officer's decision here: http://www.rugby.com.au/superrugby/News/Article/tabid/959/ArticleID/5809/Default.aspx
