Reckon the Reds are no chance without Quade Cooper. The width he provides the Reds is what sets them apart from the competition.

I think they can still beat the Sharks at home.

Funny thing is that the reds have a reasonable chance of having another home grand final against the crusaders (who would be backing up, again, after playing in South Africa). If they and the crusaders win this weekend the reds will play away against the chiefs in Hamilton and the crusaders will play the stormers in SA. The chiefs would be hard to beat, but they've lost their last 2 matches and the crusaders are certainly capable of beating the stormers.

Yeah, I have no doubts that we'll beat the Sharks. We dominated them in South Africa before a freak run of injuries and a yellow card derailed the game. I think the Reds are a fair chance of beating the Chiefs but I don't think we'll beat the Stormers or the Crusaders without him.

Looked a pretty soft tackle. Barnes had shifted his bodyweight and was preparing to step and pass, Cooper had no choice but to go with the ball and all tackle. Contact was shoulder to face but that was mainly due to Barnes lowering himself rather than Cooper aiming high. Not trying to discredit Barnes because he does have a history, but these tackles happen almost on a weekly basis and any other player would've gotten up and it's play on.

I can't imagine Cooper getting a 3 week suspension for that. If the Reds make the grand final I think he'll be there. 1 week will be okay, but 2 weeks would make it tough as I don't think they'll beat the Chiefs without him.

I couldn't imagine Digby getting more than 1 or 2 weeks. In the end he got 5. The SANZAR panel is more unpredictable than the MRP.

Digby had priors, I could be wrong but Quade is a cleanskin and this will work in his favour if found guilty. I expect 1-2 matches, he did hit him high.

Got done for a tip tackle on De Villiers a year or so ago. It was for the Wallabies though so I'm not too sure if it'll count. I think he might have gotten cited for the McCaw incident aswell?

Wasn't cited for the McCaw tackle (someone can correct me but I remember reading it somewhere), but yes forgot about that tip tackle, that makes it difficult for Quade if guilty to get less than 2 weeks.

I’m still in shock. Have to look at the positives. We were not even supposed to get close to the finals.

So it's a week.

I think he was unlucky to be suspended but I don't think they will appeal the decision. Last nights hearing was an absolute marathon so I can't see where they would come up with any additional evidence which would prompt a reversal.

I reckon the Reds will still beat the Sharks without Cooper.

Yeah, a lot of people at the QRU are not happy about the decision. I think there's a very strong chance that they'll appeal. Apparently they've got footage of another incident in the game which was a lot worse than the Cooper tackle that went without even a penalty. They have a fairly strong case but it's a very risky move considering the official has full discretion over the penalty (they are free to choose how many weeks Cooper gets). As I said before, it's extremely unpredictable and I'm satisfied with a 1 week ban, I personally thought it would be 2-3 weeks.

Cooper accepts the 1 match ban, probably the safest choice, as if he was found guilty again there is no way he would ONLY get 1 week. The initial hearing was more of a bet each way. Yes Cooper did something wrong but it wasn't as bad as originally thought. That was my original thought after the hearing.

Yeh, disappointing that Quade won't be there but I think the Reds can still do it without him. I don't think he would have won the appeal though I think that his tackle was pretty reasonable. A touch high but not woefully so.

It was high, on the minor side, but in rugby you just can't do it. In league he would get a grade 1 and be free to play.

Team to play Sharks:

1. Holmes
2. Faingaa
3. Slipper
4. Simmonds
5. Adam Wallace-Harrison (vc)
6. Shatz
7. Gill
8. Higginbotham
9. Genia (c)
10. Lucas
11. Ioane
12. Harris
13. Faingaa
14. Shipperley
15. Morahan

16. Hanson
17. Daley
18. Samo
19. Robinson
20 Jarrad Butler
21. Frisby
22. Tapaui

The game is going to be won in the tight 5. We've got an edge in the lineout with AWH and Simmonds so expect a lot of kicking from the Reds. I've watched a couple of Sharks games and they're just about the worst team in terms of defensive structures. The Sharks structure can't adapt to inside balls and decoy runners because they don't rush up and they don't squeeze in, they sit back and allow the other team to use one-up runners and try get them isolated; a gameplan that largely suits teams that play conservatively. If the Reds forward pack are able to get front-foot ball, Ioane will absolutely tear them apart. This is a game that will suit Genia as the Sharks, unless they've completely changed gameplans, don't pressure the scrumhalf or the flyhalf. Genia will have free reigns to dictate play. The worry is that the Sharks will dominate at the breakdown, as they've done for most of the year. Alberts, Coetzee, the Du Plessis brothers, Beast, Kankoswki and Keegan Daniel are all quick, extremely strong workmanlike forwards. The Sharks have generally scored tries by spreading the ball infield then quickly attacking the blindside with sheer numbers. It's worked well for them this year and no team has been able to effectively counter it. If the Reds are able to break even with the Sharks pack, we'll more than likely win the game.

The sharks are great at the breakdown and have been very good in defense. Plus great on attack in the first 25 minutes or so to get their lead.

But geez the reds haven't done themselves any favours. They keep doing these stupid little chip kicks and grubbers. It hasn't worked once and they give away good possession every single time. Harris and Genia the main offenders.

Can't help but feel that we were totally ambushed tactically and physically. The Sharks obviously had a clear gameplan and executed with aplomb, everything they did turned into gold. The Reds seemed to be clueless in attack and defence. There were some really bad tactical moves made by the Reds IMO.

Firstly, the decision to move Genia to 10 was absolutely the wrong move. Frisby is a decent scrumhalf, but this was a baptism of fire for him. He hadn't played at scrumhalf for quite a while and it showed, he wasn't making good decisions. The move is even more astounding considering that Ben Tapaui, who can play 10 or 12, was on the bench.

Secondly, it's almost inexcusable that the Reds tried to pick and drive their way to the tryline. It probably has more to do with players panicking, but they fell right into a trap. The Sharks are the best team at nullifying one-out forward runners and causing turnovers. The times they did pass it out, it was often on the back of slow ball.

Yeah, chips and little grubbers absolutely frustrate the shit out of me. On one of Genia's little kicking forays a huge gap had actually opened up inside him and Ioane was lurking.

I heard that a certain high-profile Waratah has threatened to leave, and done so quite publicly, if a certain coach isn't brought in. Pocock has also made it quite clear to the Force about the coach that he prefers for next season. Connect the dots.

It's almost ridiculous that this is actually occuring. Looked no chance just a week ago and thought my mate was taking the piss. But Cheika was the coach I was told about and the high-profile Waratah is a certain ex-Wallaby captain scrumhalf. Pocock is almost certain to go considering that Cheika has rejected the Western Force position and Foley might be taking the reigns at the Force. In saying that, Pocock might turn out to be the Force player trying to recruit Foley. I know for a fact that Pocock and Foley are extremely close from when Foley was forwards coach for the Wallabies.
