Ok dont shoot my head off ok!

Its NFL Superbowl Sunday New York Giants Vs Baltimore Ravens in the states.

Its being played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida (Yes the state that cant count- lol)

in front of more then 72,000 ppl.

Being Broadcast On The Sbs At 10am and its not just about football it will have The pre-match and half time entertainment is the ultimate in high-tech American snazz.

Fireworks, cheerleaders, dance troupes and incongruous rock and pop singers. This year the pre-match mixes the eco-jazz pop of Sting with the power ballad stadium rock of Styx - one of the biggest art-rock bands of the late 70s. The Backstreet Boys will be singing the national anthem while the man who defined soul music, Ray Charles, will perform America the Beautiful.

The half-time entertainment pits Aerosmith - a band that includes the infamous toxic twins Steve Tyler and Joe Perry - and their classic hard rock tracks with the more anodyne boy-band fare of *NSYNC.

Should be ok too watch!

My Tip Ravens in a close one!

Yes should be good game. Probably low scoring.

My tip, the Ravens.

On the broadcast side of the game, CBS is going have this new innovative replay feature by using 33 robotic cameras positioned over bunting of the upper deck of Raymond James Stadium. The cameramen will pan and focus the cameras at the same point on the field to produce rotating three-dimensional-like pictures.

The replay was based on the work of the movie "The Matrix" however it will involve video from a live action replay.

This will be great to see even if you don't have any interest in the game.

highly likely that this game will live down to all the expectations and be a total bore, as two of the NFL's most ferocious defenses meet two of the NFL's most pitiful offenses.

My tip:

Giants to win 3-0.

Im just looking forward to seeing Don Lane with his "HI GANG" enthusiasm, back on the tele again

I'm with you Frodo

The game just ain't the same without the Redskins and Riggins the Human battering Ram in the play-offs anymore.

Apparently during the off-season the Redskins signed the most expensive squad in NFL history (no mean feat that !) - and still didn't make the playoffs

grrrrrr !

After watching the first half I can clearly say AFL is by far the most exciting football related game in the world.

What a bore!

Just watched the first half and I have to say this is about the worst Super Bowl I've ever watched in terms of performance. Sloppy sloppy game. Penalties, dropped passes, punts punts punts.

I have to say this particular game doesn't do our code much justice from an Australian perspective. But I've always liked college football better anyway.

Well the games over, and congratulations to the Ravens. They defeated the Giants 34-7

The game did not live up to expectations that it would be a low scoring game. Infact, it was a rout in the end.

The second half there was a period in the game where there were 3 touchdowns scored in the span of 36 seconds. Unbelievable!

I have finished watching the game and anybody who calls it boring know nothing about the game. That Ravens defense is just awesome, the greatest of all time.

Defense is just as much part of the game as offense. Last year I had the pleasure of watching the greatest offense of all time, the Rams win the SB and every expert in the US said all out offense is the only way to win the SB these days, but the Ravens proved them all wrong.

I just can't wait until September when it all starts again. I think it great the way the NFL season falls in the AFL off season because it gives me football 12 months a year.

Carb,
What I'd have loved to have seen, wouldve been the Rams vs Ravens in the SB, as I think the rams offense in top gear could've sliced up the Ravens D. Either way this years SB sucked, as it was never even close really.

also compared to foxsports, the CBS commentary was pitiful, although that eye vision stuff was great, and would be brilliant in AFL footy- perhaps channel 9,10 etc could bring it in in 2002 ????

anyway- maybe the my embattled Jets can make it next year . tho not likely

Australians television stations would probably not bring it in. They're probably too cheap.

What CBS and FOX did is somewhat similar to the AFL battle currently going on. The NFL has four TV contracts, but two of them cover one night a week (Sunday night on cable and Monday night). The other two contracts cover the two conferences.

For pretty much as long as the NFL was on TV, CBS had the NFC and NBC had the AFC. In 1994, Fox outbid CBS and CBS, which had had football for 40 years, lost it completely. All of CBS' top announcers left and went to FOX, where they remain.

A couple years ago, CBS outbid NBC for the AFC contract, so now NBC is football-less. Most of NBC's (inferior IMO) announcers went to CBS. CBS used to have the best NFL coverage, but the talent that made it work went to Fox. ABC still gets Monday night games and a Super Bowl every three years.

Would an AFL edition of "Monday Night Football" work here? Another night of the week?

Stealthbomber,

I still believe that the CBS commentators done a good job. They were clear and you could understand with they were saying. Furthermore, they only had one play-by-play guy and special comments man. Compare that to channel 7 were they have too many commentators and half of them haven't got the "right" vioce for commentating.

Monday night football would work in the AFL if they use the right teams.

A couple of years ago, Melbourne (who have a very small following) vs Sydney at the MCG on a Monday night drew 52,000 people.

Monday night was a huge success in Sydney for the rugby League a couple of years ago. For some strange reason, Sydneysiders and Queenslanders love going to the footy on Monday nights.

Imgine the Swans and the Lions having 3 or 4 Monday night mathces each, broadcast back into Victoria in prime time on a weeknight !!!

Or Port vs Adelaode (as sure sell-out on any day) broadcast on a Monday night in the southern states.

In fact, Adelaide might be the untapped market for Monday night football. Given that every Crows game is a sell-out, the crowds wouldn't be affected on a Monday night at all, such is Adelaide's popularity. Especially if it was for only 2 or 3 mathces. We could have the Crows vs Essendon or Carlton on a Monday night beamed live into Victoria. The ratings would be massive.

I agree Monday night football could happen here if the AFL and broadcasters did it probably.

In the NFL, teams need to have a .500% or better winning ratio to be able to play and host Monday night games the following season. That means, that on the most part, there are good match ups that would be played on Monday night and possibly more closer matches.

That would be good if that were to be applied in the AFL.

However, games would need to be shared between different cities and not just one particular market.

Futhermore, Monday night games would possibly provide the AFL with better ratings and in turn this would drive up the price of broadcasting rights.

I agree Same Olds.

The best option, in my opinion, is for Monday night games to be played in Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane. Most of these venues are virtually guaranteed sell-outs, so the crowds wouldn;t be affected, since the crowd is already at saturation point anyway.

Television ratings would be huge and the AFL would be able to make a fortune through the advertising.
