Sorry if this has already been asked.

I see a lot of potential with Adam Selwood for DT. Does the recruitment of Dalziel mean that he no longer has the tagging job?

I noticed Selwood's numbers were up last year... if he is released as a pure midfielder I can see his numbers rising.

Thoughts?

From what I've seen over the pre-season Dalziell wont be taking anyone's spot.

However, IMO, playing as a pure mid is less likely this year for Adam than it was last year. We now have Shuey to make room for, plus hopefully more games from Kerr, plus Masten and Ebert being a year older.

The way I see it, Adam will be on a HBF this year, just like he has been for the majority of his career.

Been thinking the same thing - though I dont think its Dalziell dependant - he just looks set for starting midfield time the way Worsfold has used him so far in the preseason.

He's a bit awkwardly priced so you would need to be confident he is going to get the points increase of 15ppg+ to be a keeper (after already upping his DT avge last season by 15ppg). When not used in a runwith role he has shown last year he can get big scores, so its just whether the inclusion of McGinnity and Dalziell (ie check if they are named round 1, and their role this weekend) will mean Woosha has them preferred for that role. If they are, then Selwood has the other bonus that if someone else is preferred for centre square duties (eg Priddis coming back in), then his next role is floating across HBF, so good for points there too. He also has durability and consistency in his favour - even 2 weeks ago in the Port thrashing of us he still got 25 possies and 107 points.

The last couple of games Selwood has been starting centre square, and with the first possession focus, so tackles and disposals should see a jump around clearances. On the weekend against Carlton he was in the centre square for 80% of the bouncedowns and ran through the midfield all day. And there were no run with duties... McGinnity started in the centre with that role for most of the game. This weekend will be the proof in the pudding, as Worsfold will start his intended Round 1 structure and Kerr will play. So wait to see how the centre square lines up this week, but if Selwood is in there for the bulk of the game and his numbers are good, then he could be a relatively unique DT pick that might just work out well.

Don't know about Weedon's injury but he wont play many games, you wouldn't think. Certainly better options out there, even in the fowards.

I haven't seen much of Strijk but I'd imagine he's unlikely to get many games at this stage.

Is Quinten Lynch going to play on the ball again this year? Or will he be staying more in the F50?
We hope he stays in the F50 moreso in 2010, simply because that would mean that Cox and Nic Nat are doing a sterling job.

Anyone else notice that the guys on fanfooty seem to be a tad negative towards the SC/DT prospects of WC this year? Ive heard comments like " I dont rate the Eagles list this year at all" banded around.

Im sure they mean in SC/DT terms but its strange considering I believe guys like Shuey and Swift at least are locks in both competitions. Is it just me?

Probably equals out, considering how much we over rate our list here on BF.

Shuey is a lock. Not Swift.

Hey guys, just wondering if you think that Masten is set for a big season? Haven't seen any of your games and I've tried to read around a bit in the other threads and some of you are saying that his disposal has really improved and he will be a ball distributor which will make him great for DT because he should pick up plenty of marks and kicks with his teammates looking for him, while others have said his disposal hasnt improved at all and that you think he should be played as an inside midfielder which probably means he'l handball more.

With so many options around his price (mcveigh, shiels, ziebell, sidebottom just to name a few) this choice is really doing my head in. Thanks for any feedback

I think Swift can average 90 or so in both comps. He's in an improving side and has had a full pre-season and will be given every opportunity. He's demonstrated he's capable of cracking the tonne and was starting to look very sharp toward the end of 09.

Bryce Gibbs jumped from a 60 average to 90 odd in his second season, and I know you're all saying to yourselves, "That's all fine and dandy fryzie, but Bryce Gibbs was the #1 draft pick, of course he'll improve quickly!"
...very true and therefore please allow me to rebut, Justin Sherman as a #45 draft pick, also went from an average of 60 to 90 in his second season. Not every player will do it obviously but I am of the opinion that Swift has the right environment, talent, attitude and desire to improve drastically and reach new heights in 2010.

But you're right, at around 300k in both competitions he's at a very awkward price in the mids and very far from a lock. Pretty much a faith/personal preference pickup that will either be very rewarding or bitterly dissapointing. :)

Swift played really well at the end of the year (especially compared to his horror first few games) but that was with half our midfield out, no Kerr or Masten and now we have dalziell too. I think he will still play games but come off the I/C and probably be not quite as productive,
