From Monday 1 to Thursday 4 June, a 640 tonne superload will be travelling from the Port of Melbourne to Loy Yang in Gippsland. The load will be travelling in stages across three nights to minimise disruptions.

This is a very complex operation due to the size and weight of the superload so there are no designated viewing opportunities. Please keep clear during transit and when the superload is parked as safety is our number one priority.

Plan your journey
The transport vehicle is 640 tonnes and 100 metres long which means it must travel very slowly, at a top speed of only 25km/h. At almost six metres wide it takes up the entire width of the road, so can’t be overtaken.

We will have traffic management officers and load escorts travelling with the superload for the entire journey, making sure your roads are safe during and after the move. They’ll be helping to manoeuvre the vehicle safely around corners, temporarily removing signage and lights, placing steel supports over existing drainage and then putting everything back in place once the superload has passed through.

The planned route for the superload is subject to change but is scheduled to travel along the following major arterial roads.

Delays are likely if you’re travelling:

  • between Port Melbourne and Dandenong South after 9pm on Monday 1 June.
  • between Dandenong South and the Yarragon Weighbridge Station after 10pm on Tuesday 2 June.
  • between the Yarragon Weighbridge Station and Loy Yang in Traralgon after 10pm Wednesday 3 June.
The journey from Dandenong South to Loy Yang B along the Princes Highway will cause the most disruption on the night of Tuesday 2 June. The load will take up to 9 hours travel this route and there will be limited opportunities for passing. Expect long travel times due to detours.

Plan your journey, check real time travel advice at traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au and allow plenty of time to get to your destination.

Be prepared to be inundated with videos of the Super-load. Also be wary of the convoy of vehicles.
