Getting too much of a Guardians feeling to it, and the concerns about it shoehorning too much too early are coming back. Lowering the expectations a bit because I really want this to be good.

Yes I hear that a lot, it’s very busy. Lots going on and lots of characters that may be difficult to figure out at the moment who is who. This trailer I noticed baby Joey (son of Metamorpho). I suspected he would be in it (quite likely a vice for Luthor to control Metamorpho to create kryptonite for him).

But yes there’s a fair bit going on and interesting the run time is confirmed as 2 hours 9 minutes. I was wondering if it’d be longer such as the 3 hour vicinity of The Batman.

Given that Gunn has said that the world in this universe (if that makes sense) has had superheroes existing in it for 300 years and has lots of fancy tech, it's possible that early in the movie we might get a montage of all the superheroes out and about doing their thing, possibly showing some growing unrest between the heroes and Stagg Industries (who, as someone else mentioned, might provide the superhero suits and have some kind of organisational control of the heroes actions and whereabouts) and having the public slowly turning against them, before it settles into current events.
You could show the heroes in different battles, followed by flashes of Daily Planet headlines that become increasingly more critical as the unrest builds.

That's a great idea, but looks like there's a lot of bits from the trailers that look like they aren't montages.

Lois flying a spacecraft in the first movie seems a bit much too early IMO.

Lot to fit in with the run-time.

It probably seems a bit much for a first movie because we're used to them always starting with an origin movie, but the world is already established. It might seem less jarring once you start watching and get a sense of how much everyone already knows.

I don't know why, but I kept thinking it was out this weekend. Alas, it's July 10th. I didn't mind the most recent trailer, so I'm kind of looking forward to seeing it now. They're now projecting it will make over $100 million in its first weekend in the USA.

It honestly looks like a mix of the good elements and style of Zack Snyder and classic Superman

That heat vision was pretty cool as well. But yeah still not a fan of all these extra hero's shoe horned.

Do people not pre-book their tickets online these days ?
Is Superman or comic book movies on the nose with the public ? or cinema screenings in general ??? (it's been awhile since I last went!).

Scouring a few of my local village cinemas for opening day/Friday and Saturday/Sunday.....most screenings are either still completely free for seat selection, while others have 4 or less seats taken thus far.

Being smack bang in the swing of school holidays I don't know if I should chance it and risk a swarm of people rushing to see the movie.... or if I should wait a few weeks and not suffer mass crowds.

decisions decisions.

Probably a combination of a few factors. Comic book movies in general have been tracking downwards in terms of box office the last few years (many people just wait a couple of months for it to appear on streaming).

Also there’s a quite a few big releases in a short space of time now. Jurassic Park this week, Superman next week, and then a fortnight later Fantasric Four. It’s unusual to have “big” films like that in the one month so close to each other.

Yeah ever since End Game super hero fatigue has set and doesn't help further that Marvel/Sony/DC have produced some awful and lacklustre films that match the qualify of phase 1

Yes very valid point, the quality has declined and it’s also become a saturates market as studios chase those sweet sweet dollars. I don’t think it will quite reach that peak moment of Infinity War and Endgame (with Captain Marvel jagging $1.3 billion in between). It was a different time.

The pandemic too saw the onset of simultaneous streaming releases, in fact Scarlett Johansson sued as a result of loss of earnings with the Black Widow film. There’s a large percentage of fans now who don’t have the same sense of urgency to see movies in the cinema, it seems the time span is getting shorter and shorter for films to now pop up on a streaming service a few months after release.

Times have changed, as others have pointed out the accessibility of streaming has hurt movie going in general. We don't have to wait 6 months for a movie to come out on dvd like we once did.

I don't think there are that many movies anymore that people will rush and flock to opening day or week because they have to see it immediately. The last movie I pre purchased tickets was for the Force Awakens midnight screening.

The movie itself will do fine, but me personally, I feel like I see a new superman or batman or whatever it may be every few years now, and it has taken away the anticipation or excitement or what could be.

My last major movie I had to see on opening day was Top Gun Maverick.... and before that/COVID it was... Rambo: Last Blood LOL. I've gone to see classic films at special screenings.

It spins me out that the digital/streaming release of a film was only weeks after a premiere. I remember the 90s and near year long waits for cinema to video release!

I remember having to wait for a new release to be returned to the video store. Those were the days.

Reviews have been pretty mixed so far. Most say that, as a spectacle, it's good; the actors do a decent job given the script. However, the story itself is one-dimensional and doesn't really connect with you in a way that makes you genuinely care about what's happening. Despite this, I think this movie will make a ton of money at the Box Office.

If you want a funny read go over and watch the Snyder bros on r/SnyderCut lose their shit and do mental gymnastics for why the reviews are good.

"Paid shills" and all that.

That segment of his fanbase is such a bizarre and toxic cult like following, I’ve never really understood it. Just a weird and unhealthy thing to do to continue to hold onto such dislike, so odd.

I liked Snyder's DC stuff.and miss Cavill and expansion on the Knightmare storyline, but with the dust settling, a reboot was the best decision long term.

Funnily enough both Snyder and Gunn had cameos with each other in Rick and Morty this week.

Yes it’s been discussed endlessly since hasn’t it, the potential was certainly there. Knightmare potential was ****ing glorious especially with the set up from the Snyder Cut. Also I was really looking forward to the Man Of Steel 2 announcement, especially with a more hopeful take for Cavill to work with for his Superman.

It is what it is now. Am keen to see Gunn’s film this morning.
