God, what is it with all the people on social media rubbishing this film because it's made $600 million worldwide? Supposedly, this makes it a flop, according to these weirdos. The movie has clearly made a good profit for the DC studios, so that's all you can ask for in any film. It doesn't have to be the greatest DC movie ever.

Oh, and it seems that it will be released on digital on August 15th after all. Gunn has said that the reason they're dropping it this soon as they want as many people as possible to see it before Peacemaker S2 starts, as they tie in. Still, the weirdos are trying to troll that this early release is another sign that this movie is a flop. God, the internet.

Fandom obsession with film gross figures has always been odd IMO. You either like a film or don't.

They almost never inflation adjust anyway. Gone with the Wind still comes out all time top if you do that. OG Star Wars is top 3 or 4 on that measure. Depending which list you go to you've got The Sound of Music at top 5 or 6, inflation adjusted, which I doubt most people under 80 would realise was such an absolute blockbuster back in it's day.

I get studio's obsessions, they want to see what safe sequel/prequel/spin-off/reboot (insert other categories that avoid anything new here) they can do next, but fans doing it is the geek equivalent of bogans arguing over Ford vs. Holden.

So sick of waiting around for 5-10 years for sequels (looking at you, The Batman). Get it out as quickly as possible. Love this approach.
I think there's something to be said for giving it a few years between films. They just start to blend into each other otherwise.

I wanted to like it, but as suspected James Gunn films just don't resonate with me.

Positives:

David Corenswet as Superman - did just enough to be believeable (most of the time), some moments were ruined by bad cgi or shoddy camera work (or both).

The "Justice Gang" - as much as I want a SOLO Superman film, they did help make the film more bearable.

Lex Luthor (arguably the best aspect of the movie).

The colour palette, as much as I couldn't warm to the Superman suit itself.... i thought the film had the right mix of colour in most scenes.

Negatives:

David Corenswet as Clark Kent - Found his performance to be too grating.

Lois Lane - Didn't really buy them as a couple, wrong mix of actors and wrong element of scripting

Overall if I wanted to watch James Gunn doing GOTG... .I'd watch GOTG and I don't want to watch a GOTG team up style film. Give me Superman doing Superman things without outside influences please and thank you.

Also a lot of the "moments" felt more like I was watching outtakes from The OC (rolls eyes) instead of a comic movie.

Not good at all.

A movie made with a target audience of primary school aged children whose aims is to leave the cinema with a novelty sipper cup.

I watched it on HBO Max, and I'm not sure if it was due to my internet connection at the time, but the quality of the film was significantly poorer than when I saw it in theatres. The CGI looked a bit crap in a few places when viewed on the small screen. The significant thing was that, on a second viewing, I didn't find the story engaging at all. It was fun in the cinema, a bit style over substance, but maybe one you won't re-watch too often.

As soon as Superdog made an appearance, the movie was done - sadly that was about 180 seconds into the movie. I don't care about Krypto being a part of DC Comics but how in 2025 someone could look at the idea of Superdog and think - "that's great" is a mystery.

I felt that way about the story in the cinemas, can't imagine I'll find it any better on the smaller screen.

This movie is lucky Superman 4 the quest for peace exists

What a complete pile of garbage.

I didn’t like anything about this movie.

There were so many characters who I didn’t understand why they were in it. Luther was like a kid on a school play hamming it up. Lois was painful.

The Snyder films shit all over this and I wasn’t a big fan of them
