I can't see a thread on this, there probably is. I can't read today.

Just looking around to see if any of you guys have any superstitions or know someone that has weird ones.

I'll start off.

Bloke who opens bats with two 20cent coins in his left glove. No idea how that can be comfortable.

I have a routine every ball where I move my box, move my left pad outwards a little and pull my helmet down a tiny bit. Is all done in a few seconds and without any thought to be honest. Find my self doing in the nets too...

I lick my hands and rub them together during the bowlers run up when fielding and when batting I slightly bounce up and down during the bowlers run up when I'm on strike.

I always move my helmet up and down twice before every ball. I then tap the bat hard on the pitch three times and if it's a dot ball I move to the left off the pitch.

A few habbits of mine while batting are:
> marking centre with my spikes after every ball on strike
> shirt tucked in, collar up... Regurally checking this
> even though I know, I'll ask the umpire how many balls remaining
> fiddling with helmet/readjusting
> when the bowler is at the top of his mark I'll look back to check if my backlift is right (slightly open/facing 1st-2nd slip)

I'm sure I've got more

I carry a mirror in my left pocket and before the 3rd and 5th deliveries of each over I make sure my hair sticks out of my helmet in just the right places. For good luck.

Was it Neil McKenzie from South Africa that couldn't stand on the lines at all when batting?

Yeah in McKenzie's first stint in the team he was practically crazy he:
  • Taped the roof a certain amount of times before he went out
  • made sure all toilets had their lids down
  • looked at certain positions everytime he faced up

I only have a few, always walk out to bat the same way, left foot first, look at sun while jogging out and play to straight drives before im in the middle.
Also always walk back to mark on the right side of my run up.

I tap the bat on the ground exactly 6 times when I'm in my batting stance and I've just walked out and about to face my first ball.

After leaving/defending a ball I usually just walk off in square leg's direction and just stand there aimlessly looking into the distance with no actuall thought in my mind.

before every single ball I re strap my gloves and adjust my cap

A few habbits of mine while batting are:
> marking centre with my spikes after every ball on strike

Sorry guys, but these absolutely shit me to tears when people do it. :o:thumbsu:

The crease ends up looking and feeling like a bowl-shape after a long innings of people continuously doing it. Incredibly annoying. And re-straping every time... just irritates me because there is no need.

Maybe because I'm a bowler :rolleyes::D

These are more habits than supersitions but when keeping I always pull my gloves on tight before each ball. Takes 2 seconds and doesn't delay anyone so certainly shouldn't be annoying to people.

Batsman marking their stump line every ball is a pain.
