Does anyone know of a supporter association.
The players have theirs the umpires do the AFL has the commision what about us.

I'm not talking about a group that gets together and talks but does nothing
I'm talking about an official group recognised by the AFL and one that views its concerns directly to the AFL

I dont think we do and lets face it we the supporters are important to this game as well and its time we were represented

What u think

Great idea.
Now let's think of 'outs' the AFL will have for rejecting it. I'll start with one:
- 'If you are a supporter and want to have your say in how things are run, become a paid member of a club, who will in turn represent you.'

This is bullshit of course, as can be seen from the forced mergers and relocations over the years - i.e. Souths and Fitzroy.

Anyone else?

Gobby1,
I think a supporter's association is a great - and badly needed - idea. I don't know of anything like it in Australia, however, there is quite a strong one in England (for soccer). Check it out at www.fsa.org.uk

Although it seems that over there, it is more the clubs than the league who are screwing the supporters.

I think it would be a great idea, but I don't think the AFL would allow it... :(

I would love to be involved too, but I don't think I'd be allowed, because I am only 16 however...

What could the AFL do to stop it? Nothing.

We've just got the AFL members association, which the AFL could at least in theory try to stop by threatening to cancel memberships or something. But they didn't.

They'd have much less power against a supporters association of members and non-members of different clubs.

To you think it could ever grow to the stage where it was a powerful voice in football? 30 years ago the Players Association didn't even exist, now it's prety important.

If the Supporters Association got enough members it could perhaps be a place where the concerns of the average member could be raised and promoted in the media.

The AFLMA has done a fantastic job in promoting the problems AFL Members have and using the media to create greater awareness.

I would be first to organise a Swanston Street march about the lukewarm Four 'n' Twenties and the fact that you can buy Scotch and Coke at night games, but not be served heavy beer!!!

"What do we want? Hot Pies! When do we want 'em? Quarter Time!" :D

For a long time the AFL refused to acknowledge the AFL Players Association. However the players kept at it, and are now an important 'stackholder' in our game. The players who got the AFLPA going have every reason to be proud.

The AFL Members Association intends to keep at it, in the same way. (BTW: anyone wanting to know more about the AFLMA should check out its website: www.aflma.com .)
