I would say most supporter bases have some very passionate supporters and some not so much . So If what your trying to say is West coast have more fair weather supporters because they are winning well yes that may be the case . But i can assure you if we did what they have done in the last 18 months then we would have them coming out of the woodwork as well , It's just human nature.

I'd take a full stadium of Freo supporters and 12 premierships in a row and all the bandwagoners involved in that rather than having some kind of 'contentedness' that comes with the idea that I'm special as one of the hardcore who supports Freo regardless of the way we are going.

What does that have to say though, if we as a club have nothing to show for it? As much as I've said in the past that crowd numbers don't matter to me, they sure as hell do to the Fremantle Football Club. I'd love nothing more than to see Optus Stadium packed with 60,000 screaming Fremantle fans every home game, at the moment though we struggle to get 35,000. and why is that? Because we are not appealing to new fans and current fans. What new fan is gonna look at us and go "Yeah, 25 years of no history and mediocrity, sounds like a club I'll support" and fans without memberships don't have any interest in going down either, because who wants to go watch their team get smashed each week? I go down when I can because I honestly just love the club and the atmosphere of Optus. The club is a joke in terms of how it's run, and they aren't doing anything about it to draw in more fans and keep the fans they're slowly losing. this man can say how it's "good to lose the fair weather fans" maybe for you it is, but not for the future of this club.

Nothing in sports fandom is as quite as weird as when we tell other people how they should be fans and what they should feel.

Case in point, melt thread, ross thread, ross 'lovers'/'haters'. Can't we all just get along and sing koombyah around a campfire? Throw the keys in the bowl?

Anyway we are fine. 35k is good numbers for a team which has been at the bottom and looks to have spluttered to a halt for the year. As we improve more will want to come, which is fine because at the end of the day it is enjoyment that we seek from football fandom.
