Surely not...

I'd call being injured as a regular test player and not regaining his spot was a well and truly dropping. What would your genius mind call it?
There was nearly 9 months between his last test and the next test, the team had moved on and he carried on during the break because he didnt think he would get his spot back

Most seem to forget he had a very poor summer last year before getting injured and this year he isnt exactly dominating whilst hiding himself away down the order...

If you go through the Shield averages there are about 8 opening batsmen above him and 40 other batsmen as well

He's blacklisted a) because he's a sook and doesn't deserve a spot after his carry on and b) we need to start transitioning the Test side. Should've started years ago. Bringing Katich back is a mid-90's England style thing to do. Would be ludicrous.

Don't bother, Clarke doesn't drink beer (apparently) and doesn't have enough hair on his chest. A lot of posters around here seem to find those things very important, despite the fact Katich is the one who cried to the media because he couldn't sing songs until 2am.

Yes and you like to the make the point that not drinking beer and singing songs till 2am isn't manly enough but then say that Katich is crying to the media in the same innuendo.

He answered a question from the media. For all the "good blokes" who hold their tongue after being dropped, none of them have ever got back in, so I don't see the point in not speaking your mind if you have no chance regardless.

and now he's fit so bring him back in. he's the best opening bat in australia
There's many openers at Shield level ahead of him. He's not making runs. Far from the best opening bat in Australia.

I know it's only a minor factor, but lets not forget that Katich does also bowl and was chronically under-utilized in this area under Ponting, IMO.
Given the fact that Hussey bowls regularly now (and even Ponting), if Katich was still in the side (and actually got along OK with Clarke, or they were professional enough for it to not affect things), he would probably be bowling quite a lot for Australia, as his bowling is actually pretty decent and effective.

Wasn't Katich's lack of overs as a result of an ongoing back complaint that would be aggravated if he bowled too many overs?

I didn't make that point at all, others did. They both made choices, one involved airing their dirty laundry in the media. The fact that he was asked by the media is irrelevant, they didn't answer the questions for him.

I don't think I've heard of that, but it certainly could be true. Are you sure you're not getting him confused with Clarke, who has that issue?

If Katich comes in and Ponting and Hussey go out I can handle that. Don't mind some age/experience in there as long as they are in form. Good for the side, good for the young ones. There is "age" in form in some countries.

If Katich played just about the entire top order can bowl with some reasonable competence.

Cowan? Warner? Rogers? Quiney? Watson gets a spot ahead of him too.

Yeah nar. Warner can potentially be better than Katich, but you're going by what form and where they are now, Katich is superior to all five by a mile.

Yes others used it and you used the same innuendo with how Katich replied to the media.

I'd rather someone speak their mind than never hear an answer at all, which is all we get from CA, the players, their managers and so on.

So you're comparing not drinking beer to throwing a tantrum via media? Dress it up anyway you like by labelling it speaking one's mind, but it reeks of heaping the blame on someone else because he can't handle himself properly.

If we're bringing back a 37 year old he'd want to be in freakish form. Averaging 39 doesn't qualify.

Are we rebuilding this team or not? Bringing back a 37 year old, especially one who has been destructive to the team, is madness.

Exactly. As a few others posted earlier, we used to laugh at England when they'd bring in old guys in a desperate attempt to be competitive. Now we want to do the same thing?

"It's pleasing to hear but I think you don't have to be Einstein to figure out that it's not just the selectors that had a part in sending me on my way," Katich said. "I mean to be brutally honest obviously what happened in the dressing room here a few years ago didn't help my cause. And obviously the captain and coach are selectors.

"Just because he [Inverarity] is going to be chairman of selectors or whatever role it is I wouldn't have thought that'd make too much difference."

Asked whether or not he could ever expect to play for Australia while Clarke was captain, Katich replied: "I wouldn't have thought so. That's probably why I'm in this position in the first place."

Katich also had further harsh words for CA, saying he had still not even received a phone call from the governing body's Melbourne headquarters to discuss his removal or commiserate.

"No one from Cricket Australia has been in contact with me since," Katicih said. "I just think that no-one's been in touch since that happened, it's pretty disrespectful I think from my personal point of view. Given I've been contracted for 11 years, to not have any contact whatsoever that's pretty disappointing.

"As Chris Rogers said that's blatantly rude to be honest. It's just common courtesy to give someone a call back.

Wow, what brutal commentary about this thoughts on why he wasn't selected.

Just decided to look up how he's gone this year rather than just use his average.

Started off ok with 76 and 125 then gone 8, 16, 13 and 29 in his last 4 innings. Not really in form, especially when you're 36yo and we're already got and wanting to get rid of two other 36yo's.

If 76 and 125 were his last 2 innings it' may be a different matter given his reputation.
