Do u reckon Thompson might pull a rabbit out of a hat in the finals?

e.g. Drop Varcoe and Brynes and bring in a Grima or soemthing like that???

How about to replace Egan we bring in Gardiner or Tomahawk as a surprise factor?

No. Grima is a rookie and therefore cannot be played.

No. Hawkins is lacking fitness... Went extremely well in the VFL, but I'm not quite sure he's up to standard yet.

Do we really want to fart around with the team at this time of year?

I think that if Bomber sticks to what everybody already knows we will be figured out by Grand Final day. If he's a good coach (which i'm convinced he is) then he will pull a few tricks here and there.

I think that if Bomber sticks to what everybody already knows we will be figured out by Grand Final day. If he's a good coach (which i'm convinced he is) then he will pull a few tricks here and there.

Exactly, the fact that we have a consistent few that don't pull their weight means we have more flexibility.

Those that don't pull their weight consistently are; Varcoe, N Ablett, Byrnes, Blake and maybe Hunt. Varcoe and Ablett have specific roles and can stake a claim on that. However, if we lost those players or swapped them for a few surprises or went horses for courses or whatever then it wouldn't impact the sidemuch because we don't get that much from the above group anyway.

We have depth and we have flexibility. I expect Thompson to use it. The RookieMonster will be back this week. Tommahawk will be in the side come crunch time. Crunch time begins 2nd week of the finals.

The only 'trick' we need is Rooke to come in. Media/opposition teams dont seem to know about Rooke, rarely gets a mention. We seem to be the only ones that rate him, which is great!

IIRC Gerard Healy had huge raps on Rooke but he's about the only one.

Maxxy is right up there in my books, top 7.

Why would we bring Grima in even if he was eligible?

The only surprise I can see is either King in at some point, or Egan somehow recovers in time to come back into the team for a prelim or GF. Don't see too many other possibilities.

Happens regularly - why not bring back Ben Graham - just as realistic. The surprise factor may well be that Nablett, Rooke, Byrnes or those who are "iffy" play stunning games and shut up their critics. The Roos would have Tomahawk covered in a second - he would not be a surprise since inclusions like this have ocurred in finals but I think it would be unwise. Playfair is a living lesson.

I'm sure that's one the selection committee will be toying with. If Petrie has to go back because we have 3 talls in the forward line with the probability of Ottens resting there too they would be forced to send Petrie back which would mean the loss of Egan would be negligible

Yeah but can you imagine Goldcoast trying to match up Hawkins, Mooney, Nablett, S.Johnson and Ottens with defenders.

They wouldn't know what to do, cause Petrie would have to go back and there goes their forwardline.

Everytime the ball hit the ground they would run it out and probably create a lot of scoring opportunities. The reason we have been so good is we have had a lot of team balance. No need to upset the applecart now.

Wrong. Crunch time begins now. We cannot even contemplate losing this week and being forced into a knockout situation.

The team must approach this game as they have all others - with total respect and preparation for the opposition, and focusing on this week only. As far as I'm concerned week 2 of the finals doesn't exist.

That's what Stokes, chapman etc. are there for.

We had that forward setup against Richmond in round 6 and well,
we know what happened that day.

Not saying North are like Richmond but that setup worked a treat.
