So last week I had an epileptic seizure in my sleep. I've had the condition for 10 years, but have controlled it with medication. The last seizure I had was 4 years ago, again in my sleep after missing my meds and drinking. But this time around, the seizure came out of the blue - I had taken my medication, wasn't sick at all, had adequate sleep, hadn't been drinking. Recent changes and the law and the fact that there was no obvious causal factor means I'm now not allowed to drive for 3 months.

This has royally screwed me in the ass, as it has come at the worst possible time. I need my car to get to workplaces at short notice (I'm a relief teacher) and I'm also getting married in 3 months and need to keep the income coming in. I've just quit my previous job to take up teaching again, but having a license was a requirement of my former role as I had to travel a lot going store to store so I wouldn't have been able to continue in that anyway.

Anyone want to share their coping experiences after losing their license?

wait im confused here, lets go back a bit, you had an seizure in your sleep at home. How did you lose your license, did your doctor rule that out, somehow that would of been notified to law enforcment officials. 4 years since the last one and they take it like that, seems a bit unfair considering you dont have them much. How did they come to that conclusion.

anyway do you have any family like your parents that could take you to work for three months. How close is the school from your place, is public trasport an option, or at a last resort Id have to say cab it for three months if the position means a lot to you.

Neuro and doctor refer to guidelines and say that I cant drive for 3 months. If I kill someone between now and then basically I'm going to jail for a long time. Compulsory third party insurance is void.

With relief teaching I can get a call in the morning to go to any school in the metro area.

Fiance, mother, siblings and friends are all being supportive - but they got to work as well....just got to hope to pick up some fixed term work at a set location I can get public transport to.

crap situation to be in but I guess its for the best as you'll never be able to live with yourself if something horrible happen while you were behind the wheel. Think from here on your going to need a stable position close to your home if you can get it so its convinant to your situation, hate to say that but its probally for the best.
