Swamprats Legend MP_ will play his 400th Sweet FA Match on Sunday afternoon
This is what the great man had to say about his journey so far:
Cheese: Hi MP
How does it feel to reach 400 Sweet FA Matches?
MP_: It’s an interesting feeling between absolutely lame and ****ing awesome. I’ve been on Bigfooty for almost 20 years and have been specifically in the sfa for well over 10 years. In that period I’ve moved house 5 times, had 2 kids, moved to the country, battled depression, survived 3 very dark moments and stayed married to the most amazing human you could ever meet. This place has at least been the one constant good thing in my life for the last 15 years.
Cheese: Let’s go back to the very start …
You were a rookie way back in Season 9 at The Rats … then disappeared for five Seasons
Who recruited you & why did you leave Sweet the first time?
MP_: I was recruited by Toots Hibbert who is no longer with us. I really can’t remember much from that season it’s like 18 years ago. I think life just got very busy, not sure if we also folded at that time too and there was no interest to keep it going.
Cheese: You returned to Qooty in S15 with The Bombers
for one Season before a six Season stint at The Rats from S16-21How did you end up at The Bombers?
Were you involved with The Rats revival?
*The Rats folded after S9 & returned in S16
MP_: I was recruited by ThePuppetMaster , probably because fellow Bombers players and port board people spookism and Gee Dub told me about it. Myself, gee dub and spook plus another port guy I can’t think of were involved in bringing the Swamprats back. In the end gee dub pulled out as he didn’t want to upset beez who was the Bombers captain at the time. We completely blindsided beez who thought we were committed to the Bombers, I don’t think he’s ever forgiven us.
Cheese: Very interesting
You moved to The Roys from S22-26 & won your only Qremiership so far there in S25
What is it like to win a Sweet FA Grand Final?
MP_: I moved to the Roys to help them with activity it started well however it ended the opposite as I was inactive in the last year and a half so I had no idea I was a premier.
Cheese: After three Seasons of not being listed on a Sweet FA Squad, you came back to The Rats yet again in S30 for 2.5 Seasons
You were then involved in a Mid Season Trade to The Hawks/ Phoenix in S32
What happened?
MP_: I’ll be honest my periods of inactivity and not playing are mental health related. Unfortunately when things get bad for me I withdraw from everything even the things I enjoy. I’m pretty sure the move to the Hawks happened around the time of Covid. I had Joined Chipmunk discord and was doing the song contest with him and por_please_ya and other hawks players and I felt it might be a good time to join a team with whom I was forming great friendships with.
Cheese: You were at The Hawks/ Phoenix for 5.5 Seasons before coming home to Sin City at the start of S38
Are you happy to be playing #MP_400 at the Club where it all started?
MP_: I think it’s fitting that I’m back where it all began. I’m happy that I’m with a group of people who behind closed doors are extremely supportive of each other and what they’re going through. Behind all the jokes, sarcasm, werewolf games and banter some of us have been at breaking point and the people behind the usernames have been more support then they’ll ever know.
Cheese: The Sweet FA is a better place when MP_ is active
