News Swans Confirm Covid Cases

Press release

SYDNEY SWANS CONFIRM COVID CASES
The Sydney Swans can confirm some members of the football department, including players, have tested positive for Covid-19 during their leave period.

All affected players and staff are double vaccinated and all report to be in good health.

The Club’s primary concern is for the health and safety of all players, staff and their families.

All positive cases are adhering to relevant State Government health directives.

All members of the football program returned negative covid tests before their final training session of the year on Wednesday, December 15, in line with AFL protocols that includes weekly PCR testing, as well as regular rapid antigen testing.

Football department staff and players are due to return from leave on Thursday January 6, 2022.

It is fine. They are vaxxed. It is the Xi strain even though they call it omicron.

Bad cold and carry on at worst.

This fear porn has to stop. More chance of being eaten by a shark or hit by a train.

Who really gives a sh*t. Honestly. They now have natural immunity. Awesome as far as I am concerned.

Literally not 'at worst', but I get your point.

Was bound to happen and will continue to happen, the NBA has been a shambles for the last 2 weeks with nearly entire teams getting it all at once and having to isolate. AFL will have the same thing happen sooner rather than later.

It's still important to care about COVID for now, complete apathy is useless.

I agree it's important to care, but for how long?

If all teams are 100% vaccinated, what's the difference between being apathetic now and apathetic in 10 years? I understand caring for people outside of the clubs, but how long will we be scared of a team getting covid?

The biggest issue, which has already been addressed by Bedford, is that they miss Xmas.

I'm just glad I don't have to make any decisions because no matter what, you're going to do something wrong.

If we aren't apathetic in 10 years then there was reason to still care 10 years ago :p

Really upset hearing this news. Hope they recover well with no long term side effects Like long COVID.

what chance have you got avoiding it when the approach is to let it rip. No wonder they call it the Domicron virus.

You'd assume elite athletes will be ok in the short term. Big risk is post-viral fatigue, not dissimilar to glandular fever. It's no joke and so-called "long COVID" seems to fit the bill. Having been there, wouldn't wish it on anyone. Truly awful, in a life changing way, should you get unlucky.

Fingers crossed vaccination, general health and a bit of luck all play their part in ensuring the illness is mild and they experience no lingering effects.

I’m pretty sure Ryan Clarke was one of those.
And he Flew over to Melbourne the next day, saw him at the popular venue in Melbourne The Espy that night, amarty and Blakey too

will spread like wildfire
Hence why vaccination is the way out. Though the lockdown mob will be in a frenzy again, all while not having missed an hour of work for two years while their government kept them safe.

My local pub had a barman who got it , he served me on 3 nights as he did many others , his live in girlfriend who works there , all tested , not 1 other person got it ! All fully vaccinated , we have to settle down . Wearing masks in retail has to happen .
Im in retail.
Worn a mask for with my staff for 12 hours a day.
The biggest nuckleheads that think they dont have to wear them are young men in construction.
I don't get it. The only obvious group that stands out. Not all of course but of all the people that WON'T wear a mask in store, they are leading our in store count of most unlikely to wear a mask.

It came from China.
Making it political has been a disgrace.
Get vaccinated & move on. Lock YOURSELF away indoors & let us move on with our lives.

Two people died yesterday.in NSW.
Double vaxed 80 year old in nursing home with undelying health issues.
Unvaxed 70's person with underlying health issues.

My 91 year old mother is in a nursing home.
30 cases of it with residents, including her, 3 have died. 6 staff members. Not sure of the Vax status though my mum was. Apparently a family took the resident out for coffee & brought the virus back in.

Get vaccinated folks.
Stop the fearmongering & take on life again.
The players will be fine if they don't have any underlying issues.

Yeah, I'm not really sure where I sit on the issue, on the one hand, I honestly believe it's best for society to treat the virus, especially omicron, as severely as possible. On the other, I feel like there'll be a new strain every ~6 months, and we'll eventually have to live with it.

Though letting the virus run rampant has never been a good idea, and I would prefer that whatever the AFL/Government does is too harsh than too soft.

And if it sounds like I've changed my opinion in the last 6hrs, it's because I have lol...

Is it Omicron? I'd really like that confirmed...

It would certainly give us a clear picture on how things will work moving forward.

As long as a significant portion of the world is unvaccinated, then new variants will pop up.

Lobby to get the world fully vaccinated (triple) and then we'll see many less mutations, and Covid will be no more than the flu...

Agree. In the meantime mask wearing in shops should be mandatory.

It baffles me why we stopped AZ production when we could have sent it to places like PNG or Africa to help stop it before it got worse

There is so much differing opinion around, even among experts, that changing your mind is a logical response.
My personal view has never changed.
Masks
Social distancing
Vaccinate and boost as often as necessary
Vaccinate the world to reduce mutations
For instance, social distancing at the footy means every second seat is filled and rows are zippered. All wearing masks. Not that complicated.
The stuff the AFL did this season with testing for staff and players etc was good.
The rest was dictated by the States .

The media are again driving this way above where it should be.
It was to be expected that the number of covid positive cases would increase once we fully opened up. People may say that we are 90% double dosed with vaccination but that leaves 10% who are not. 10% of the population of Sydney is almost 550K people.
The majority of people who get covid who are forced to go to hospital are those who are not vaccinated.
Those who are vaxxed may still get it yet only have mild symptoms but they will then pass it on to others. This won't change.
On the Melbourne news tonight, they again continued to sprout about omnicron and how quickly it spreads yet we had zero new cases of omnicron today and have a total number of active cases of 27. 27!!!
We have to live with this bloody thing and it would also help if people didn't rush off to get tested after waking up in the morning and having a sneeze.
Probably not the take I would have, but we are all different.

I can't tell the two black shirts.
