I disagree.

In first few finals, on any day, anything can happen.

What ab gerat experience it will be for Rohan and the boys to get a taste of finals footy. Every flag team usually has a build up over 2-3 years.
Totally agree for once, but it might depend where the umps are from. lol

i think there is a realistic chance of us scraping into finals. a timely recovery from bradshaw and c bolton and others, and we could surprise some teams come september. the full strength side earlier this season was very impressive at times.

Bradshaw is apparently in doubt to play at all again this year, according to those who heard Roosy speak on SEN the other day. Apparently Craig is also in some doubt to play again but is determined to do so. I would seriously consider ruling him out for the rest of the year and getting him right for NAB Cup next year.

The teenie weeners 'cup half empty' generation!

Try finding & watching some old tapes 92,93,94 of your side ( yep that's last century)

Wonder what the 'mood' might be at 10.30ish tonight;)

sorry, with all due respect, we are in 2010. Whatever happened in 1992, 18 years ago is kind of completely irrelevant now and I don't really care. The focus is on now and the future, has to be. Hek, even the glory of 2005/2006 is now looong gone. Im not saying we don't have a history, but we've got to move on. It;s not cup 1/2 empty, but the AFL of today is chalk and cheese with that of 1992 across the board of every club, how the game is played, ajudicated, viewed and experienced by both the players, coaches, media, and the fans. I'm getting real, as the title of this thread suggests.

No, the comments about 92-93-94 WERE relevant to the whingeing and general misery being expressed about the latest on-field disappointments.

Anyone who watched us lose those, what was it, 26, 27 games straight, and endured the darkest, most hopeless period of the club's modern history knows what we're going through now is merely disappointment, most likely exacerbated by our very encouraging start to the season.

We're a bit of a mess right now, but we've been cut up by injuries to key position players, and performances by some players that just aren't up to what's expected of them (younger players and some of the senior blokes).

The comments are extremely relevant. It's nothing to do with the state of the AFL now, media, umpires, officiall, but ALL to do with the fact older Swans fans have endured far, far worse than these latest hiccups.

Going into last nights game, the Cats had a winning average of 53 points. We are an average team. How boring is that! Finishing 8th or 9th for the year would be appropriate. I'm thinking 8th with a loss to Freo in the first week of finals.

cool, thanks for the insight. Look Ive no doubt there have been far worse periods of Swan misery than the temporary disappointments of 2010. I think we will come good again, after all, we still beat teams 6-16 convincingly most days of the week. I am looking forward to 2011 and beyond.

Most pundits predicted the Swans would finish bottom 4, now those same 'experts' claim the Swans are under performing despite being in the top 8 in what has been widely acknowledged as a rebuilding year.
Put the spine [Bolton, LRT, Seaby, Bradshaw] back in and the team would be performing better than Richmond's 10 years of rebuilding combined.
Add to that the obvious talent in the next generation of mid fielders and things are looking up.

A very astute post.

2010 is dead, we have to move on with this. Even if we make the finals now, we dont deserve to be there... 2011 and 12 will be good years, I've said the same thing Leg End said that we will be a strong force next year and the year following... It's a meshing of the team together, in a sucsessful AFL team everybody needs to know everyones weakness and strengths. How they lead, how the kid and what they normally do close around the ball... Its this stuff that wins Cups.

2012 YEAR OF THE SWAN!
Would like to acknowledge this future prediction ;)

Jesus, a lot of bizarrely positive crystal ball gazing in here.

I love the tail end of the season at bigfooty. 500 supporters of teams that won't win flags all posting how awesome their team is going to be in 2 years time. They can't all be right.
Shut the **** up you ******* flog.
