Mattner played a great game and definite positive signs with Tadgh not having to be the lone playmaker from the back..

One thing's for sure.. Roosy is definitely mixing up the players as i noticed he was swapping a lot of the players in different posi's..

Let's just hope they become more consistent week in week out..

Thought we did well out of the umpires today! Goodes layed a guy out when he was hanging on to him after an ump had stopped play. Looked like he may have elbowed him in the head but it seemed purely accident al with the following footage showing Goodes even looking around surprised. They may look at it though but I think he wouldn't have any trouble.

Good to get a win on the board as the games don't get any easier Lions next at the Gabba.

If McVeigh can back up again next week I reckon it'll be time for some of you guys to drafting your apology letters :p

Really impressive game from him again today

Also liked the idea of playing Bevan up forward where his mistakes don't cost us goals.
both myself and bedford, among the loudest voices among mcvague critics, conceded last week he looked okay against st kilda, and was even better today
the thing i've really liked about him is he's now putting himself in much better positions, going where the ball's going rather than drifting away from it
he still needs to work a bit harder, especially with disposal, but he's certainly done more in two games than he did for most of last season
well done, lad

i agree on bevan too, and he's still a fantastic tackler, but it's a worry when he has to hold on to the ball for more than a split-second and be forced to think about it

I loved todays game. Absolutely awesomeeee !

Me & is2SWaNz asked Justin Westhoff and Daniel Pierce to have a good game, but not play too well and win it.

Looks like they listened :D:thumbsu:

The best thing about todays game for me is that we didn't have to rely on Goodes, C. Bolton, Kennelly and ROK to carry the team. So many of our mid-tier and younger players stepped up.

Haha, I forgot to mention this but today I managed to exchange a few words with Pearce and Westhoff from Power. I simply told them to promise me they won't play too well against them or they'll be sorry. I guess they kept their promise! :p

An enjoyable game, 1000 times better than last week's crap. And yeah, I agree with you Malceski90. We didn't have to rely on those key players. It was great to see the whole lot of them working as a team. :thumbsu:

Excellent game today from everybody. The team played cohesive football together and exploited Ports weakness, that they are far to offensive minded and are a poor defensive midfield team. Everybody made space in the midfield when we had the ball (To prove we can do it if its in our advantage) and closed them down when they had it. The run the midfield had and the way they hit our forwards was superb.

The defensive setup was superb and allowed no domination from their forwards.

Unlike last week our forwards presented much better a by product of the midfield of course but I think the intensity rate was lifted by them.

Everybody put in today and while O'Keefe needs to fins his kicking boots we have to be delighted with Mattner to have found team cohesion in Round 2, Bolton to bounce back from his criticism, Jolly for his ruck work against one of the leagues best double ruck team, The youngsters Barlow, Moore and hard nut Jack, and Buchanan and even McVeigh for finding space so efficiently.

Very please with that.

LRT,for me played extremely well, forced into the ruck, against two talented opponents.Popped up forward on a couple of ocassions, took some good grabs. Looks like he is really starting to assert himself as a valued member
of the team after his injuries.

indeed he is!
and what about kieren jack? this is not just a good kid, a promising youngster, this is a serious prospect
he's tough, he can run with the ball, he can deliver on a pinhead from 40m and did anyone pay attention to a period in the last quarter, i think shaun burgoyne (or peter) was trying to run it out of the power defensive 50m, in fact i think jack harrassed burgoyne back into the 50m, and we're talking one of the most elusive, quickest mids in the league, jack hounded him back into a pocket, he had a coupla teammates in support, but jack and brett kirk (i think) between them ended up tackling a port bloke over the boundary for a throw-in
at one stage 4 power players were being corralled by jack and kirk, just beautiful to watch and we were unlucky not to get a free kick
we haven't had that kind of pressure applied defensively by our forwards since 05
sorry to go on, but it was a period of play we should get really excited about

jack will be a star.
bird shut down pearse.
moore poised, like he's been around for years
LRT ruckwork in the second half was great, didn't always get the hitout but blocked brogan and lade.
mchack great improvement, just needs to hold tackles
barlow.can only get better great goal from 55 should have gone again instead of passing
grundy very good on westhoff
good to talk about young players

Now they all know we can play open footy. Of course, we didn't need them to :p
We certainly have nothing to prove, but it was good to give a big F U to the people who blame Sydney for every low scoring match. Sydney adapts it's game plan to suit any situation, so when we're playing a team that doesn't know the meaning of midfield pressure, we suddenly turn it on and pile on the goals.

It's pretty obvious when you think about it. Our games against particular teams hold a pattern, such as the close, intense contests against the Eagles, the ugly matches against St. Kilda, the free-flowing football we play against the Power.

We always play the way that we feel gives us the best chance of beating a particular team, and I don't care if we kick 20 goals or 6, as long as we win!

Watching the game against St Kilda on the box I noticed that despite the result our intensity was at a much higher level than it has been this early in previous seasons.

Having now watched the boys live it's clear that we are SCARY fit this year. We simply ran harder, tackled harder, and did all the little things which there are no stats for (like supporting the man with the ball, and throwing themselves into the packs) better than Port.

If they maintain this endeavour, the curse of a quick exit last year could result in easily our best start to a season in a long, long time. :thumbsu:
