Everyones been going on about Sydney being placed next year below the likes of Melbourne, Carlton and Essendon based solely on the fact that we are an 'ageing' team. I know everyones entitled to their own opinion, but these predictions just put me off, we are far away from being deemed a bottom 4 team.
Although we do have an ageing list I still reckon our team has a season or two's worth of run in it before we flatline a little and need to rebuild vigorously.
What do you think we will be placed on the ladder next year with a fully fit (knock on wood) team?
Do you think our elevated rookies will get ongoing game time next year?

It amazes me how many people have writen us off. I thought we did very well this year considering Hall and Kennelly were injured for most of the season. We lost 2 games by only 1 point and we had a draw, if those results went our way we would have been in the top 4 this year. The Swans have got 2 full seasons left before we have to worry about playing like Carlton.

They've been writing us off for years. Who cares what they say. Roosy will have the player's ready. Don't worry about that. With a bit of luck we might finish top 4, it might be a huge ask , but 5 - 8 is a more realistic.

It happens whenever there are retirements/trades etc in Syd. The "experts" really don't pay much attention to our list, so they never see the likes of Schneids, Mal, Amon, Schmidt etc coming through the ranks. 2003 we were supposed to come last. Why? Becuase probably the only 2 or 3 players most scribes had ever heard of retired. Pfft.

Roos will revitalise the list again this year. He will pick a kid or 2 and give one of them a 20 game run this season - the way he did with LRT, Bevan, Dempster, Macca...and the list goes on.

And maybe, just maybe, some people who claim to follow the game will finally hear about a Moore, or a Barlow etc. and realise we're not so fragile that every time one or two players leaves the list we'll crash into tanking territory.

i thought the same, but their opinions really start to piss me off sometimes.
i hope alongside barlow we'll see more of the faces we haven't seen much of!

rumours are we're up against st.kilda, so it'll be ineteresting to see how schenider and dempster have been fit into the team.

well the people that you are probably refering to are probably all victorian and dont really give a shit about sydney rookies because thats not their target audience. being a melb based supporter, alot of people already know about barlow and see he has real potential.

i quite like the fact that nobody really knows much about sydney it gives the team a bit of an edge i think by not being so heavily scrutinised.

I like the fact that the majority are predicting us to finish on the bottom 8 next year. I love wearing the underdog tag around my neck and surprise everyone come 27th September 2008 (touchwood). :D

But I can't blame them as to why they'd tip us so low. Its obvious with our so-called 'aging list' and our game plan being 'exposed and shot'. Although Kirk and others are saying we don't need any 'drastic changes', I'm ready for a different swans team next season. I can feel it in my bones.
