The SMH has named 7 from the Swans it believes to be in a real chance. - Richards, Grundy, Jack, Kennedy, McVeigh, O'Keefe and Jetta as contenders.

the way I see it

Richards yes
Jack - Yes
Kennedy - Yes
Jetta - may need to pick up the run home to make it.

Grundy no, several geat KPD in front of him and the need for running defenders will ensure not.
McVeigh - great recent form but not at that form consistency early.
O'Keefe, early form wasnt up to it.

Anyone else or agree in full with the SMH?

Both Jack and Kennedy getting in will be a stretch. They'll both be fighting for the same spot. Jetta's improved immensely, but the accolades this year have been way over the top. For example, I think Rioli is having a far greater influence, yet he's not being talked up nearly as much for AA.

Richards is probably the only one to be in AA form all season and is an absolute lock. No other defender has been on his level this season.

And to be fair to Jetta he's probably only had 3 or 4 average games, they just happen to be his last few. May miss out if this run of form continues.

While Kennedy has been solid I think his form has tapered off a little bit since early season and may just miss out due to sheer quality of the other contenders.

Jack may be a chance if his form continues to the end of the season.

The others are no chance.

I would. ROK hasn't had a standout season.

Richards our only lock, though Jetta would be mighty close. Think Kennedy has tapered off too much.

I honestly believe the selectors look at how many games a team has won, and then allocates them an amount of spots. We have been top of the table for weeks. It wouldn't surprise me if we get 4 in.

Ted - Lock
Jetta - Lock
Jack - Maybe
Kennedy - Maybe

Isn't it a good reflection of just how the Swans have an even spread and share the workload across the park, when we really only believe there's one standout for AA honours this season.

There is a 'T' in Team and that 'T' is Ted !

Agreed with the 4 CAS nominated. Jack's form since about round 6 has been up there with the best handful of players in the comp. Kennedy has tapered off since his blistering start to the year but still going at a strong rate of form. Jetta has had a lean month by his early standards.

I think Ted, Jack and Jetta will all make it. Ted because his form has been too consistent to ignore, Jack because his form of later has been incredible and Jetta because he has been the talk of the AFL town all year and that momentum will get him over the line.

I think Kennedy might just miss out. I think selectors might have to pick between Kieren and Kennedy and Kieren will just get there on the bench.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Grundy and ROK in the 40 man squad. I doubt McVeigh will get the media hype to make it though.

Interesting thing about McVeigh is it would seem he is highly rated among players and coaches.

Pendlebury wrote this is his "Ultimate AFL Player" list:

OVERALL DISPOSAL

Jarrad McVeigh (Sydney)

A fantastic one-touch player all over the ground by hand and foot. Whether hitting up the leading forward or kicking into the corridor he seems to be able to do it with ease and precision. Might not get a lot of external recognition but is highly rated among rival players.
Might not mean AA level but I thought it was interesting.

Richards should be lock and it would be stupid if he misses. Has been one of the best individual seasons from a key defender in recent seasons. Only Lake in 2010? was better imo.

Jack and Kennedy strong midfield chances. Jetta a sneaky chance for a spot in the forward line, needs to finish off the season strongly though.

There have been better players than Grundy, O'Keefe and McVeigh. If the season finished today I don't think it would be an issue if they missed the squad, let alone the team.

Yeah, this. Richards must be in, the (unlikely) hype about Jetta down here might get him close. While everyone recognises the effect Jack has on the team I doubt he'd get in ahead of the usual suspects; Kennedy likewise.

I find it amusing that Grundy is considered and named. I don't think he has been AA but its obvious most people in the football world consider him a better player than some posters on the swans board.

Haha agreed. The fact some on here think he's a bad defender is laughable.

There is a certain small defender who is in with a shot imo...

If we win the last 4 games of season then i'd expect to get a few more in than if we dont finish top of ladder.
Especially with our defense being the stand out this season, Nick Smith could be a smoky.

Jack or Kennedy will make it you'd expect

Teddy is probably first picked

Jetta is in with a shot of a FP / HFF position.

Don't think ROK McVeigh or Grundy are likely, all having reasonably good years but much better players around in their respective positions.

The selectors won't know who Nick Smith is. I don't say that facetiously either.

I don't think his year has been his best anyway. I think he was better in 2010 (despite missing a few games) and last year too. Has had a good year nonetheless, just not AA level IMO.

No way Nick Smith has had an AA year. Jetta has been overrated and would be LOL if he even made the 40 man squad.

Teddy, KJ, and Kennedy being included would all be warranted however.

He'll make the squad as a small/medium forward. As a midfielder he is well behind plenty of players. You could argue he is no longer in our top 5 players this year with O'Keefe and McVeigh dominant over the last two months.

Seriously? Jetta has 3 average games and suddenly the other outstanding games where he shredded teams apart don't count?

This is one of the problems with AA in my opinion. Strong form towards the end of the season clouds peoples judgement. Look at Jack for instance, he really didn't do much at all early in the year. I'd suggest that if his season was reversed we'd all be saying he's no chance of AA.

Jetta sits at number 11 in the coleman medal, not only well ahead of every other midfielder in the competition but also well ahead of some of the games most prolific key forwards. When you also consider the metres gained by each of his possessions and his brilliant disposal, he is extremely damaging to opposition teams. I think some of you are underselling him a bit.

If he continues his form of the past few weeks over the rest of the season then he probably misses out, but if the AA squad was picked today, I would have him in it.

I'm only talking purely as a mid. Would be behind at least 20 other players for overall impact as a midfielder imo.

Huge chance for a HF/FP spot.

I wouldn't have said 20 but you're probably right in that he's behind a lot of other midfielders. I think they might squeeze him onto a half forward flank or put him on a wing as a true winger for once.
