Hmm. Just thinking along those lines, here are the names that vaguely fit the characteristics we are looking for in this thread (youngish, could be cheap, not playing a lot at their current club for whatever reason):

Scott Lycett
Angus Graham (has looked pretty rubbish at times but would be entering the prime age for ruckmen in which Mumford, Ball, Jolly all started to blossom)
Max Gawn (Melbourne would want to hang on to him though)
Jake Spencer (probably the same)
Tom Hickey
Daniel Gorringe
Dawson Simpson

We could always go after Ceglar or Witts (a NSW kid) from Collingwood. The Pies rate them highly and would be desperate to keep them to take over for Mrs Jolly's handbag when he retires.

Perhaps but they are actually being played in different positions a bit. Roughead has been playing down back lately and doing quite well, Cordy has been played forward to little success and then they have Minson who is going OK.

I would think the Dogs would want to keep all 3. Going to be difficult to pry Roughead or Cordy away from them just as they begin to show something.

I'm thinking Gorringe from the Suns. Has Smith, Fraser and another young ruck ahead of him. He can double as a tall forward so I reckon we go all out to get him.

Fraser would be gone at the end of this year though surely. That would open up the race a bit for their ruck division to play behind Smith. I don't think Fraser has even played all that much this year to be honest.

The Suns have 3 young rucks on their list in Nicholls, Gorringe and Hickey so one of them could be pried away from GC if we wanted I'm sure.

Yeah I agree. Its funny how when the substitute rule first came in, clubs were really anxious about having a one-trick ruckman on the bench. We're lucky in that neither of our ruckman are one-trick big men.

I feel reallllllyyyy sorry for Seaby though. I don't know for certain, but I get the impression that the hierachy would have promised him 22 games a year when coercing him from WC. Then the sub rule and the emergence of Pyke came in. I think he is injured though, so maybe he can push in. Maybe we could play all three in a game against a mino club and see how it goes? :)

I don't think we'd ever promise someone games though, that just promotes complacency. I think we would have promised him that if he played the role we wanted him to then he would be picked every week. And unfortunately that role doesn't exist anymore/
