and why?

Someone just posted something on the main board about Goodes coaching which reminded me of conversations i've had with other swans fans, who would make a good coach and why?

Jarrad McVeigh... Yes, he's been proven to be a great leader and smart decision maker. Even when he's not playing fantastically he earns his captain spot because of his leadership skills.

Brett Kirk.... No, as much as i love the guy i think he's too hippy shake to make a great coach. Good luck freo ;)

Adam Goodes.... I'm on the fence with Goodesy, what do you think?

What other swans would/n't make a good coach for us in the future?

I was thinking about this yesterday actually. We'd need to see what the players are like at training and off the field to really know, but I think Goodes, ROK, McVeigh stand out to me.

Maxfield, Crouch, Kirk, Williams and Playfair are already there (pick the odd one out there...).

You don't have to make any major decisions this early. If any of Goodes/Bolton/ROK etc are interested in coaching give them an assistants gig for a while and see if they've got what it takes. Great players don't always make great coaches. Make them prove themselves.

Interesting hearing that Nick Smith was a captain at Xavier. He and Hanners would make great coaches in 10-15 years time. OKeefe perhaps. Not sure about any others though.

I don't want Kirk to coach, the only bloke on TV that makes me genuinely feel awkward when listening to him.

I don't think ROK will, I think Bolton could, Goodes a chance, Hannebery another.

I also get the feeling that ROK won't, that he will pursue other interests in his life. Strangely, I felt the same about Jared Crouch and he's now the reserves coach and I assume in line for a promotion soon.

I think to be a football coach, you have to be captivated by footy almost to the point of obsession. However, there was an interesting article written by Wayne Carey before the grand final, saying he never thought Longmire would one day become an AFL coach so who knows who will decide to stay in the footy caper.

Nick Smith wouldn't surprise me if he got into it. He has such attention to detail as a small defender/tagger, that could translate to the coaching role.

When you look at a lot of the current coaches, a great deal of them are defenders. I don't think it's a coincidence. Sanderson, Malthouse, Scott x 2, Neeld, Hardwick, Watters, Worsfold.

Tough one to answer really. I'd like to think Goodes. Without naming obvious credentials, I'd like to add that he has played at least one full season in every area of the ground and is obviously an integrous man with strong off-field responsibilities with his position on the National Indigenous Council and his 2010 Charity person of the year award. He also lead Australia to victory in Ireland and coached the Indigenous AFL team one year (I think 2008, probably wrong).

Id be pretty suprised if you gave Goodes a 9-10 year apprenticeship under Longmire as Longmire had under Roos, if Goodes could not be an effective coach. And in all seriousness, if Mark Neeld can get a job why cant Goodes.

Richards is my best guess. Although, I think he'll look for career options elsewhere.

McVeigh seems like a fairly intelligent guy with a lot of passion, so I'll guess him too.
