Just for fun, here's a rough Swans 2nds team. Injuries excepted of course

Assuming first team is:
Melican, Grundy, Smith
Rampe, Aliir, Lloyd
Heeney, Mills, Jones
Hayward, Franklin, Florent
Papley, Sinclair, Menzel
Naismith, Kennedy, Parker

Hewett, Reid, Ronke, McVeigh

That leaves us with:

Fox, Maibaum, Reynolds
O'Riordan, Tucker, Thurlow
Foot, Rowbottom, Cunningham
Wicks, Blakey, Jack
Stoddart, McCartin, Rose
Cameron, Clarke, Bell

Ling, Rayner, Amartey, McInerney

Assuming no injuries, I can't see Toby Pink getting in the side. Only spots for one Academy/top up player. For 2019, Rayner will definitely be up there, other than that, there aren't too many standouts other than Hamish Ellem who I don't know too much about.

They will keep more than one spot for Academy/top up. There are usually 3-4 each week.

Thanks, interesting when you look at exactly who would be available. A couple of things:
  • Re Pink, I can’t see them playing an Academy player before a listed player when one’s available.
  • They also usually have half a dozen or so NEAFL Development Squad players available. They would typically figure prominently in team selections.

Agreed, especially at start of year when academy players are preparing for Nationals.
BUT, beware after... looking at the academy fitness test results, the number of yoyos that were 21 plus and the sprints under 3sec and the 2km times well into the 6 minute mark, not to mention the size of this group ; Pink may need to keep an eye over his shoulder, as a few others will too.

So we have a praccy this Saturday. Here's what could be part of the team with top ups to be added

B COR, Reg, Thurlow
HB Reynolds, Melican Macca

IC four top up kids

All the above need the run for match fitness or are borderline for Round 1.

Stoddart injured too?

We don’t really know where Amartey is at either.

If we sign one or two of the boys mentioned last week, can they make it in time for the game lol?

They may be keen to get a few more minutes into Reid as well, if they are allowed (he played both games but played maybe a half to 3qtrs of them).

And won't be many top ups yet, academy teams are off to Canberra to play the Giants on the weekend.

As bad as I feel for Jack he is going to have to spend a lot of time in the reserves in 2019.

KJ is a legend of the Club. He may have gone on one or two years too many. Still I am convinced he has one of the most crucial roles for the Club as an agent for fast tracking the development of the many young youngsters on the list and Academy kids getting games as Top-Ups in the Ressies.

I doubt he will play more than two or three senior games. As captain and quasi on field coach of the 2s his role would be priceless.
