We have a substantially lower revenue base than a number of the bigger clubs, but the club has decided to match those clubs in the area of football department spending and thus forgoing investment in off field assets. They have been very clear about this and continue to talk about how difficult it is for us to grow our revenue base to compete with the bigger clubs, which is the only way forward if you want to match expenditure on-field and build up assets off the field.

I have no issue with this strategy as it prioritises potential on-filed success, but it is a fine line when something like 2020 comes along. But the club has prudently cut where they could to get expenses down this year, had a small asset base to offset the loses this year and have taken a small loan from the AFL on far better terms than going to external provider.

The most important issue for the club at present is to maintain the current academy at a level it is at and invest in the new EAFL competition and to continue to ensure it can grow it's revenue streams as much as it can through membership, sponsorship, match day attendances and merchandise and corporate support.

The club also needs to diversify. Hell just dump a couple hundred grand into an SPF and wait.

Lloyd's fantasy ratings mirror his actual performances over the last couple of years... he's steadily increased his output and has really become a leader for the club without much fanfare. Great player! And underrated.
