20APR25: Swans vs Port Match Reports

This is exactly what should have happened before the weekend. Abandon a failed move forward. Anyone with a few brain cells left could see this was a total waste of time after the first two matches. But Cox had to keep pushing a dead horse. Bloody stupid. Think of what could have been if Francis played there all match. He was bloody good. Looked like a natural GF forward. Knows how to lead up to the ball. Times his leads well and takes the mark out in front of his face, does not try to chest mark.

He showed Tommy how it's done.

Swans must abandon McCartin experiment, says Cornes - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1305358

Article from Codesports on membership, crowds etc (2023/4 figures)

Membership 75,152 (9th)
Ave home crowd 38,202 (9th)
Ave H&A crowd 37,475 (9th)

(Just point out at this stage, no I have not confused us with Richmond)

Social media followers 702,300 (6th)
Membership & ticketing income $21.9 mill (8th)
Payments from AFL $24.3 mill (13th)
Total revenue $73.2 mill (9th)
Net assets $53.5 mill (8th)

Footy operations expenditure $35mill (4th highest. Adel/Haw no figures).
3 non-Vic teams (Bris, GWS & WCE) spent more.
(Melbourne topped the actual spend, but that incl a one-off $3.1 mill payment to Angus Brayshaw. Without which they would have dropped them below us).

Doing OK for a team that has gone from handing out free tickets in the early days in Sydney to establishing a real presence in the Harbour City and also draws the crowds on the road.
All the while reducing dependency on the AFL for 'handouts'.

:thumbsu:
I remember when you could buy a Swans Pass at the Railway Station. It included return fare to abd from the ground, buses included and entry to the game. It's a wonder they didn't throw in a pie and sauce & a free beer as the crowds were so small. I mean, we never had allocated seating or anything. We could sit where we wanted, which was between HF and wing on the fence, near the Bradman.

I remember us being three of about 30 out there. On the other side of the ground there were far more people and the Swanlets used to dance on a balcony in the stand opposite lol. Such fun. But the crowds would have been less than 10,000

The season is gone imo

Think will be 2 - 6 heading into Carlton with roughly the same side as yesterday. No one coming back in that time , McDonald maybe.

If we can't win at least one of the next 2 we are done

We have Essendon before Carlton so may even be 2-7

Players joking around etc after they put up that performance?

Almost like having a laugh with the opposition after the game on the ground.

Were they? I turned it off

Not the end of the world - second half of year should be better if we can get healthy. May be a blessing in disguise if we improve but miss the 8 and reload for next season. Next couple of months could be very tying for a number on here.
