Oh Nick Mal ❤️ Third place on my personal podium for all time favourite 😍

For some his reason his GF matchwinner came up on my social media this morning.

There's that long moment when the ball helicopters and then Dennis utters his immortal commentary line.

"IS THAT THE GRAND FINAL??"

We should have a Swans HoF for greatest commentary moments. There've been half a dozen classics over the past 20 years.

Tim Lane was great deep into the last quarter of 2005 GF with 'Old Bloods fans have waited a lifetime, their teams leads by 4 points and time is running out for the West Coast Eagles'. I actually was at the game and only heard it when I watched a replay but it still affected me and was spot on.

Reckon I watched the DVD of that game so many times, I could have called each play of the match!

As mentioned by bedford in History thread

The late Henry 'Sonny' Elms has been elevated to Bloods Champion status while Premiership players Nick Malceski, Ben Mathews, Rhyce Shaw, and the late Harry Purdy have been inducted into the Swans Hall of Fame at the SCG on Thursday evening.

BRING BACK RHYCE.

Interestingly all 3 guys pictured now coaches, Ben with us, Rhyce and Mal with the Suns.

Got to admit I'd never head of Elms.
An oversight on my part.

‘Sonny’ Elms played 215 games for South Melbourne and captained the club for 10 consecutive seasons, from 1885 to 1894. A member of four premiership sides (1885, 1888, 1889, and 1890), Elms was revered for his leadership and tactical brilliance — once described as the “Napoleon of football commanders.”

Then I wondered why he was isn't in our Team of the Century.
Then I figured maybe the whole 1880/90s bit gave a clue.

"With Cox taking over the mantle of head coach from John Longmire, the pair remain very close and have regular conversations, but the majority of Grundy’s sessions are now spent with two former Sydney premiership players, midfield coach Ben Mathews and Mike Pyke.

Pyke has come in as a part-time ruck consultant this season to specifically work with Grundy, Peter Ladhams and Will Green. And although the influence of different voices has had an impact on Grundy’s form, it’s his incredible work ethic that sets him apart."

I like Mike Pyke

Gotta love player development. It is a skill that needs training to be effective. What works and what does not work.

I am currently teaching maths to kids that are not good at maths. Small group for an hour a few days a week. I had a break through session the other day and my kids were so engaged and took a leap in their learning.
i hit a roadblock and had a bad week where they were not learning. It was subtraction from numbers with zeroes. 300-192. Sounds easy but the answer is not the answer it is the process to work out the answer that is the answer. I struggled to teach them with no success.

I went away and thought about why. I came back with a strategy and I made up a game. I introduced the game to my 4 students and they took it on. None of them were good at subtraction. And subtraction from numbers with zeroes is the hardest to learn. I told them the rules. They each had a rotating part to play. They executed it perfectly. I had built in mechaisms so if someone stuffed up they were corrected by their classmates. They loved it. They all learnt the hardest subtraction in one lesson. I just sat back and watched them learn and teach themselves.

My manager who was doing similar next door with 5 students. I interrupted her session and invited them to watch.

This lesson and how it is conducted is now part of the main teaching.

You need good development. It pays off.

Part of my intense dislike for BT stems from his description of Mike Pyke as a “joke” (among some other derogatory statements) back in his debut season.

Most disgusting, disrespectful piece of commentary I ever heard.

Pyke has come in as a part-time ruck consultant this season to specifically work with Grundy, Peter Ladhams and Will Green.

BT is still an imbecile and Premiership Player* Mike Pyke is now a ruck coach for the in form ruckman of the comp.

* Something fat ass Taylor never achieved.

I feel like Pyke having to learn it as an adult from scratch probably means he has been through a masterclass of development .

My wife was a teacher - she would relate 100%.

No wonder Grundy contested marking has improved too. Pkye had vice gripe hands.
As you say definitely improved and does actually get a mention in the article;

“Then, in main training, he works with Pykey really strongly. All the rucks go to him for a 15-20 minute period in our main session and do quite intense work, that’s helped Brodie’s contested aerial marking and positioning really strongly. He’s embraced that work, and it’s given him the confidence to attack those contests"

Less than two months after their disaster against Adelaide, the Swans are one of the hottest teams in the competition right now

I feel like the big callout in that article is the huge improvement in our efficiency going forward.
Accuracy has gone from 16th to 9th and
Score from inside 50 17th to 5th

I know you’re just relaying facts - but it makes me angry.

Come good at the wrong time of the season - what in hell’s name were they doing in April & May - making up their minds if they wanted to play? 🤷🏻

The Hudson “Nick Davis,Nick Davis!, I see it…etc” was pretty good- especially as Hudson was weeping at the time.

Yep, as great as "Leo Barry you star" was, Huddos incredulous call when Dicky kicked that last goal is my all time favourite.

Having ~ 8 first 22 players out does actually explain incredibly poor performances.
Especially when you factor in the multiple changes Cox was forced to make week after week after week, the team had no continuity at all.

Is this media related, just checking every thread , making sure it’s all good 😊

I do think the continuity affected us, however the dons loss was a disgrace effort wise for most of it.
