Surprised about Day.
Looks like it is up to Hippy and 2nd year player Morris as our KPF for the first game.
Going with 2 rucks i doubt they spend too much time forward.

Anyhow it's the GF team less McKenna and Daniher and in Levi and Oscar.

Do you think there is a chance Fort is the sub? A smaller forward line with an opportunity to change it up in the second half if it isn't working? Maybe even bench Oscar late if he is blowing up?

I know it's not a great sub option if a smaller player goes down, you then revert to what might be considered a more traditional line up, with three tall forwards. Plenty of flexibility with a heap of our players to cover forward, back and the middle of the ground.

They’ve already announced Levi as sub

It is a big chance i recon.
Fagan has gone with a ruck as sub before.
That way Levi plays

Edit: I take it back as i missed that article about Levi being sub

They already are starting small. If it isn't working, they can just bring Fort on for someone other than Oscar. That's more flexible than Fort being sub.

Fort doesn't need to be sub for that to happen.

Bad prep aside, I think this game could be an even bigger smashing than the GF. Swannies going in with a weakened lineup with Grundy solo rucking against Fort and Big O. It's sad to watch Grundy play at present - and absolute liability who actually looks scared of his opponent. Fort did him over in the GF and as serviceable as Darcy is, he's a fair bit inferior to Big O. Suspect Big O will spend a good amount of time at FF given we lack tall defenders and Oscar has good forward craft. I'm tipping Oscar for 4+ goals.

The watch on the first half of the year has to be on how the forward line performs. Joe for Fort is a huge downgrade and I assume he'll be on the bench and we'll go small.

Shouldn't be an issue when we get our ball movement and pressure right but we might be finding it harder to score more often than last year

Daniher is a huge loss no doubt. I guess a small consolation is that Ah Chee Lohman and Rayner are all capable of taking pack marks if the delivery is ok. We'll miss him a lot as that big body around the wings.

Problem is they could do that with Joe being the defenders main focus. Now Sam Taylor drops of Fort and intercepts everything

Yes it's a problem. When you see McStay going round for the Pies you realise how big an upgrade that was.

We really need Sam to be able to at least be able to compete with the big dogs when he's available.

I suppose it's a bit much to expect Gallop to be up to it this year.

You guys will try Smith, Day and that young bloke from Sunny coast but wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being a Fort / Big O combo between FF and ruck.

When Stef Martin was number one ruck Oscar was dangerous lurking in the forward pocket.
Accurate shot for goal as well.

I can see Oscar being forward quite a bit. He has improved as a player in the years that Daniher took over full forward so I can see he might be a much better forward now.

I like it. He can clunk a mark and can definitely be a marking target to simply bring it to ground.
