Autopsy Swans vs GWS Round 22

He was linking handballs up late when we finally attacked and horse woke up from his slumber

Started poorly his first few kicks were coach killers/morale killers
Hanners had a few shockers but he was working the wings pretty hard with his two way running. That was one of the reasons we were able to shut down their outside run. As for Horse, he's not trying to win each quarter, he focuses on winning the entire game. GWS piled on the pressure from the start. We kept the pressure on longer then, when we started winning the ball, we attacked. Had our skills been a bit sharper early we would have hauled them in by half time. To suggest that he didn't have his eye on the ball is simply disingenuous.

That’s your opinion, thanks for sharing

My opinion is he set up too defensively early, but he adjusted in the 3rd quarter, like he even said he did

He said they had to focus on winning the ball first up and the rest comes from that. We were turning the ball over early. Too many handballs or poor kicks to turnovers.

No need to thank me for sharing. Happy to oblige.

Great resurrection despite injuries to make finals, possibly top 4.

But still so many posts bitching at coach (a premiership coach) and individual players.

Someone please explain it. Is it a teenage angst thing? Was there an ex- girlfriend involved?

Fair dinkum. Why the obsession with spoiling great performances?

I imagine it has something to do with conditional beliefs which some BF memebers hold.

It could sound something like this:

IF Swans have recruited Buddy, the greatest full forward since Tony Lockett and have a great midfield THEN the Swans should have an attacking game style that maximises his scoring ability and results in high scoring, entertaining matches.

IF the head coach in John Lonmire holds a defense first mindset THEN he is wasting Buddy and costing the Swans team the ability to take the game on and score heavily.

IF the Swans team can't take the game on and score heavily THEN they will not win the grand final whilst John Longmire is currently coaching the team.

IF the Swans can't win the grand final under the current coach and defensive gameplan THEN the club hierarchy should replace him with someone who can implement a different gameplan which can.

If the above opinions are strongly held then it would be very easy to see how someone could focus on negatives after a win and be critical of (1) the defensive gameplan the Swans have implemented since 1996 when Eade brought the defensive flood back again (2) John Longmire.

I personally don't hold those conditional beliefs which leaves me quite content and satisfied after any Swans win :)

I think it’s the disinhibiting influence of being anonymous on the internet.

Face to face, we tend to default closer to the centre, but on the internet, there’s nothing restraining extreme opinions, so people go for it.

The world’s full of optimists and pessimists. Usually, we’re just born that way (I’m a born optimist. I SHOULD follow St Kilda.)

Society tends to prefer the optimistic take on things, so face-to-face, natural pessimists learn to keep their mouths shut.

But on the internet, they have the exhilarating freedom to be unbridled pessimists.

And don’t they take to the task with relish.

SPD G, I think some confuse realism with pessimism. FWIW, I am probably more direct in my opinions face to face than on the Internet. Both here and normal life I am a relaxed person. Standing next to me at a game is I have been told a rather different experience.

I have no doubt every Poster here celebrates every achievement of the Club and its players including our wins. Some of us will always scratch their heads in wonder at an improbable win (FWIW, I am still scratching my head in delight at 05 and 12). Still we look to how we can improve, both on and off the field.

The past 22 years has given me and all of us a lot of pleasure (aside from the 14 Grannie where I was ashamed). It helps soothe the arthritic memories of the 50's to 96 when we managed to win our first final in my lifetime.

I really think Kirkswan (particularly that state of the Swans Board thread which proved destructive for some valued posters) and a few others buy into a false dichotomy between 'loyalists' and 'Doubting Thomases'.

Great post mate.

On re-reading, perhaps my post came across as too negative towards those I described as pessimists. There's every chance they simply see themselves as realists; maybe in fact they are more realist than some of the incurable optimists among us.

I should have made it clear that this forum is a place for everyone to express themselves however they wish to express themselves, within the bounds of decency and respect of course.

Just maybe we should all have at the back of our minds at all times the awareness that anonymous opinionating on the internet is always very prone to an unnatural amplification of position.

Everything you said in your first three paras to describe yourself, describes me to a "T" too.

Play on, everyone.

Is someone able to tell me why Dawson was withdrawn? In the match report is says Sydney injuries: Nil

All the Club said was he was being "Managed". Personally I think that is the most frightening injury of all.

For me the most frightening injury was the old 4-6 weeker, which was usually career ending. We've been better this year, only Reid had the 4-6 injury which of course wiped out his season

hehehe ... good point ... suspect Melican had a 4-6 weeker as well.

...but then again Tippett had a 4-6 year contract and we know what happened there... thankfully Buddwah has a 99 year contract.

I’m sure I read somewhere he got a corkie in his quad the week before. Probably gave him until Saturday to get up but wasn’t to be.

One of the best this season esp the mids. Great energy and pressure. Just worried that this is a once off as we haven’t seen much of it this year.
Hanners kicking is still crap but he got his touches.
Jack of old but wish he’d stop those dinky Entries into the 50.
Parker was strong but he makes some terrible decisions with his kicking.

Parker has also been charged with making careless contact to umpire Jacob Mollison during the fourth quarter.
Based on the available evidence the incident was assessed as careless contact with an umpire. The incident was classified as a $1,500 sanction. Parker is able to accept a $1,000 sanction with an early plea.
Heeney was cited for misconduct against Greater Western Sydney ruckman Rory Lobb during the fourth quarter of Sydney Derby XV.
Based on available evidence and a medical report from the GWS Giants Football Club, the incident was assessed as misconduct. The incident was classified as a $2,500 sanction. Heeney is able to accept a $1,500 sanction with an early plea

Surprised at the amount of votes KJ is getting in the POTY to be honest. He showed some promising signs at being healthy, but he still had like 8 direct turnovers from 15 kicks. Butchered it left and right.

Ive never used accuracy by foot as a measure for this group
