Do you reckon Richards is a walk in start for Rnd 1? He hasnt played a pre season game has he? Grundy or brennan should be considerd. To bring 3 smalls is not the go imo.
Of the fringe dwellers i reckon Grundy, Moore, Jack (over Bird for match ups prob on Milne) and either Brennan (or Richards depending how fit he is) should get the gig..
Pity about White, going from the report he was never really going to be seriously considerd for rnd 1. Hope we get to see he get a few games this year..
not sure about richards
i am aware he's been barely sighted in the preseason, and if there's any doubt, i guess brennan is the obvious positional choice
but i'm not giving up yet on white, although it would seem he's slipped out of the reckoning

Im not giving up on him either, i want him in, and i still think LRT should stay put in the back line, cant afford to give power FWDS the luxury of lining up on top up defenders. Thats exactly what will happen if he rotates through the ruck..
BTW i might go to the rnd 1 thread for further scrutiny..

Thanks for the compliments on my RWO report.

Based on form and the past actions of our coaching panel, both Mathews and Buchanan are in trouble. I thought it significant the Mathews started on the pine, and Buchanan is not one of the white headed ones - he did get dropped last year. Both were pretty useless yesterday and on form should not be in our first team; I reckon both will be lucky to be picked in a fortnight.

Barlow, Jack, Moore and Bird on the other hand were in the starting 18 and all have had good pre seasons. I see no reason why it should not be any different in two weeks.

Despite Bevan's uselessness I think he will survive - he is the white headed boy. Only alternative I can see is replacing him with Cracker, but at present Kieren is more suited to the midfield. Late last year they played him back in the ressies, but the Canberra comp being as it is all he got was chillblanes. If Jack is selected in that role, I hope everybody will recognise that it will be a case of learning on the job. Whatever, if he stays with us JacK will be a 200 gamer.

If they deem Richards not ready, Brennen will keep his job up back. All will change when (if) Spida comes back. Without Spida, it seems they decided before this week that LRT will be the ruck pinch hitter, thus leaving a hole for a tall, in the backline. Mocca was not given any chance to show his wares this week.

McVeigh has been pretty useless pre season too, but he is another with white haired boy status: that plus his engine and history as a tagger will save him I think.

Up forward, I think Reg may jag the job as forward pocket. Moore is a lock in as the small forward pocket, so we need a mobile tall forward for the other one. Reg has made steady progress and is IMO the best option.

So from the 26 originally selected for Saturday's game I would expect White, Mathews, Buchanan and Richards to be omitted.

Cheers ORB..

I was at the game also ORB and agree with what you said. I will be mighty peaced off if Mathews in particular is in the team for round 1, I reckon I could have done more for the team yesterday than he did, if it's at all possible, he's slower then last season.
For all of you still bleating on about Schneiders trade, going by what I have seen in the pre season, we have a more than adequate replacement in Moore. For mine, he was the standout yesterday. His defensive pressure was great, his disposals effective and a good, accurate kick on goal with a good engine to back it up.

are you sirius??? (ahhh ha ha .. okay, sorry)

y'really think buchanan will miss? i must admit i've not even considered that option, and i did watch the last quarter of the prelim final v saints in 05 about 4 times yesterday, and buchanan was outstanding, but that was a while ago now
at least he can get the ball and use it, and i'd be willing to give him a chance to prove himself ahead of mcveigh, mathews and bevan
i'd like to share your confidence on moore and jack, although i do think bird is a certainty

if LRT rucks, so be it, but i think he's going to be a revelation at CHB as the season progresses

Poo pants, I think Monty is in the same can as Schneider, both are fabulously talented footballers, but 05 and 06 gave them both swelled heads. Schneider paid for that by being traded, but we still have Monty. He needs to rediscover the drive he had in 2005.

My take on the Canberra game was very similar to ORB's in almost every respect, but not so much with respect to Buchanan. I thought he had a reasonable game - not great, but not that bad either.
