Time to get my head bit off.

McVeigh is not my favourite player but he has achieved more than I ever did and I suggest more than most of the posters on Big Footy.

He is an outside midfielder in a team which has a lot of "in and unders" and taggers and as such will stand out as being "different"

Perhaps he lacks in some areas and maybe he has had a lot of opportunities, but that is not neccessarily he's fault.

He's turning 23 years old this year and has oviously impressed and convinced some pretty good judges around the club that he will continue to improve, perhaps because of his character.

If we had of drafted Rioli, I certainly would have liked to see him get a run before McVeigh

I do however get a little bored with the group mentality in bagging McVeigh and hope that he proves you "doubters " wrong

I agree with every word. :thumbsu:

it's disgraceful that a sydney supporter can direct that sort of garbage at a fellow swans fan
in fact, that's probly as low as i've seen on the swans board

personally, i don't care, but if you're gonna step in here and tell people to stop doing this and that, start with the serious stuff
That is truly extraordinary. You know you've hit a raw nerve when you get a reaction as excessive as that. So it's "disgraceful" to accuse a fellow Swans supporter of unwarranted criticism of middle-ranking players, but it's OK to accuse a Swans player of being "weak-hearted"!

Pheew.

People biting each others' heads off.
Fans support their teams in a different way to others, so don't criticise them for that.

Time to agree to disagree, i think?

no, you can accuse of anything regarding player criticism, just don't liken that to a richmond "fan" who spits at the coach
and i see you still have not managed one in defence of these players
also, let's stop right now with "middle-ranking players"
barry hall is a star of the game but was awful last year, following on an abysmal 06 GF
adam goodes was awful AND cranky for the first 8 weeks last year, it's arguable that had he been right we'd have won maybe 3-4 more games and finished a lot closer to the top few
leo barry, a grand final hero and now part of club folklore, has lost pace, form and judgment and it's very reasonable to expect more from him or question his place in the team
where else do you want to go with this?

the bloke (McVeigh) has had MORE chances in the sydney seniors over the past 2-3 seasons than several blokes who have performed as well, if not better, with the few chances they've had (eg, j moore, t schmidt, m laidlaw, even k jack) and i'd like to know why (which will never happen) or at the very least see mcveigh forced to do penance in the twos for under-performing, as have the likes of buchanan, dempster and schneider (now at saints), grundy, vogels (now delisted), and the aforementioned trio
This is very, very well put. I would certainly like to see more of the mentioned players get more of a chance in the senior side. Just because you have played a full season at senior level does not mean that you should be guaranteed a place every week. There needs to be pressure put on the senior players (not just McVeigh) from the reserve players and the reserves need to be rewarded with senior selection when their form is better than someone elses which I think it has been in the past if you compare McVeigh to Moore, Schmidt, Laidlaw, Barlow etc.
