Another story idea: WTF was up with those bandaid-things some players (including Roos) used to wear on their noses? Where did they go? Were they banned because they were performance enhancing or are the people who wore them tools?

What? I don't remember that, although sounds pretty stupid.

Maybe its a case of the serial nosebleed?

nah, it was something to do with opening the nasal passages to improve breathing, i think.....it was taped across the nose, and always looked to me like it would be pretty easily removed....i guess it turned out a crock, coz no one does it anymore

In the mid-late '90s (1996-1997?) a lot of AFL players were wearing nasal strips; I can't find an online picture though. It looked pretty silly and I guess it was.

yeah, club swans meet the swans thing.

that article was in the daily telegraph too, pretty lengthy as it was nearly a page long.
usually they mention it as a side note in a tiny column.

the interesting thing on the website is the story on brett merideth, roosy says he will play against the tassie hawks, but he is only a young kid and won't be expected to play senior footy this year.

for heavens sake the boy is 19yo,do other clubs play kids of that age,of course they do.
this is why a lot of posters are getting frustrated with a lack of youth being produced by the club.it certainly hasn't harmed the pies by playing youngsters.

if he's good enough put him in,dont waste these kids by leaving them playing in canberra.

also interestig was that he is being mentored by the champ in goodes and wait for it,god help him MCVEIGH.
sorry i said i'd leave him alone

heh heh...i thought exactly the same thing, but we agreed we'd give the useless hack a break

but you're right, mate, about the statement that he'll play in the Nab Cup but not the main comp
how can roos say that now??? what happens if meredith turns out to be the next chris judd or leigh matthews or jimmy bartel?
what happens if he absolutely tears it up in the Nab Cup, inspires us to the NAB GF and a win???
now, it's not likely, obviously, but whether it be meredith or any of the other kids, why come out now and say they won;t play seniors
a) it would seriously take the wind outa my sails if i were a new recruit keen to impress the club
b) it would make me feel bloody stupid, if i were the coach coming out and saying that before i'd seen the kid play, but after i'd seen him train, it'd show me up to be a fcking bad judge
so yes, it seems a ridiculous and badly timed comment

apparently we will only see merideth in the magoos as he's only a kid and we don't play them.
if this policy was in years ago bobby skilton would only have been double brownlow medalist bob skilton.
