People the filter is there for a reason. It captures certain words and converts them to **** so that kids and others who do not appreciate needless swearing are not subjected to it.

If you must say that Caroline Wilson or someone else should go forth and multiply, your point gets across if you type the word in full as the filter picks it up ... i.e **** off. You are breaching BigFooty rules by doing this ... f*ck, fcuk. Same applies to other words.

If you type it and the filter does not pick it up, you are not infracted for swearing (you may be if it is directed at someone), but you can be for deliberately making the word obvious by changing it around.

There is heaps of this going on at the moment because we are letting it go. Time to reign it in again so all users can enjoy the board.

In best Seymour Skinner voice, yeees, that may well be the case young man but I am tired of being told to go and French Connection United Kingdom myself. I'm not even sure that is possible.
 
Picking up 50 papers is better than the cuts, and Ya didnt even need to swear to get the cuts, just simply throw sand in someones eye was enough.:mad:

P.S. did ya ever just grab the papers from the bin ??

You have your rules, I am entitled to speak my mind.

It is a joke that we cant "use words". The television, radio, print etc all allow us to use these words as it is a basic right. Television in London (the most conservative country on earth outside the states) allows the use of the word **** on air. (along with everything else).

You may be considering the kids, which you aren't, but you have certainly pandered to the minority and curtailed the rights of the majority in doing so, have catered for the lowest common denominator and lowered the intellectual standard of society (not just big footy) in the process.

It is truly sad to see people infringing the rights of others to convey a sense of middle class moralism which does no one any good except the most conservative and intellectually diminished amongst us. There is without DOUBT, no greater destroyer of freedom than the curtailing of speech.

There are great books (such as Robert Hughes culture of Complaint, Voltaires Bastards etc, etc) which deal with this exact issue and exemplify how dangerously idiotic this type of behaviour is but also how ineffectual.

It is a sad blight on Bigfooty that middle class moralising has won over and adults are not able to enjoy a conversation without it being edited by small minded quasi religious moralisers.

Personally I think BigFooty would be much better off using the well established rule of management by exception. If someone is repeatedly being exceptionally racist, vulgar or insulting over a sustained period having ignored warnings for their most extreme infractions, then by all means. But carte blanch restriction of the english language, curtailing of free speech and pathetic moralising are neither neccessary, effectual, or acceptable.

This type of thing belongs in the home.

If you really feel that these types of words should not be seen by children then I suggest you start your campaign with the Oxford English Dictionary and the MacQuarie both of which feature them in all their glory for children to read.

I was suspended from this site for using the word *******, which is a perfectly legitimate word, by a moderator who had himself been using the word. Not just an infringement of speech, but corruption through double standards.

This site needs to get some perspective when it comes to these types of things.

Yeah I was Yellow carded for 7 days as well, for use of exactly the same word. I read the rules that indicate that the moderators of BigFooty are mortally offended by the use of such words. What if Fevola was doing work at a ******* society? That is okay? The fact I was "yellow carded" made me see red already. I would have thought the site a joke, but well and truly accepted a comment that asked me to refrain from using the word, rather than a heavy handed slap... I am a professional in my personal life and I also moderate two forums, I do not consider myself to be over the top or generally antagonistic, yet here I was being slapped on the wrist by some idiotic rule.

I mentioned to the moderator in question that if the word is that reprehensible then why not use the swear filter, I was hardly surprised that this was ignored. Funnily enough you go to every board and people are telling opposition supporters to **** off or go **** themselves etc but apparently calling people a bunch of *******s is an inexcusable sin. Stupidly most people go off as soon as someone from another club says something that is not flattering. Yes there is a fair number of idiotic supporters there to bait, but constructive criticisms from those outside the club should be encouraged.

BigFooty moderation has a lot to learn and a lot of the moderators are bias and have no idea about what sort of environment is conducive to good conversation. For the best part of 3 years I have generally only been active at this time of year on BigFooty, but they should certainly consider a major revamp if they are going to match the club forums.

Wow. All opinions have been read and taken on board. A few points:

* There are no freedom of speech principles on BigFooty. It is not a democracy.

* None of you know that BigFooty is lobbied by anti-discrimination bodies, legal bodies, clubs and the AFL.

* The words '*******' or '******' are legitimate words but as a genuine handicap, not as an insult towards a fellow poster you disagree with. We are not concerned about the offense caused to the poster called the names but more concerned that someone considered to have expressed a stupid opinion is associated with what is a terrible genuine handicap. You will not win the right to say it however you like and as grown adults, I find it incredible that you think it important enough to complain about something you can easily curtail.

* The word ******* is not included in the swear filter because it is a real word and not supposed to be a thing of shame. It is only when used inappropriately it presents a problem.

* BigFooty is not and will never be run according to a dictionary.

* If people are telling others to **** off or something similar, they are generally sanctioned for it. BigFooty posters do not see any action taken unless a yellow or red card is given or the moderator makes any action known. Most are prepared to assume that nothing is done when it suits their arguments however.

* Posters come on to BigFooty and look after themselves. None of them spend hours some days cleaning up mess, getting conversations back on track to prevent a gigantic mess with no structure and answering PMs and reports from disgruntled users. Don't ever pretend to know what is involved unless you have done it. The site and this board particularly has grown incredibly in terms of traffic.

* Most posters will complain about the mods not catching trolls fast enough on this board 'where are the mods?', but then complain if we remind you not to go outside of the rules. BF rules stipulate that I infract swear filter evasion. I don't because I don't want to lose the sense of comraderie we have on this board. We are in it together. If you want to create a posters vs mods mentality, go ahead and do so. In turn I can apply the rules as they are written rather than try and steer you guys in a particular direction.

It's all about cooperation. I bend over backwards to help out people when they ask for it. It would be nice to think a few simple requests here and there isn't too much of an ask.
